Author Biographies R. Phillip Bording R. Phillip Bording received his BS degree in Applied Mathematics from the Missouri School of Mines in 1967, MS (1984) and PhD (1995) in Computer Science from University of Alabama in Huntsville, and University of Tulsa, respec- tively. He has extensive experience in seismic modeling, migration, and related algorithms. He has published widely on high performance computing, geophysics, and application specific computing. Currently he is a consultant on reconfigurable computing, and has worked for NASA, Amoco, GM, PGS, IBM, MSC, Nichols Research, CSC, Memorial University, and Alabama A&M University. He is a member of CSEG, AGU, SEG, and IEEE Societies. Patrick Daley Patrick Daley is a Research Associate with CREWES (Consortium for Research in Elastic Wave Exploration Seismology). Patrick received a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Alberta in 1974, an M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Alberta in 1976, and a Ph.D. in Geophysics in 1979 from the University of Alberta. Dr. Daley worked as an independent contractor with research centres of major oil companies before joining CREWES at the University of Calgary. His major interests are in the areas of mathematical geophysics and numerical modeling of wave propagation. In the past, has served as a Special Editor of Geophysics and he presently serves as an Associate Editor of CJEG. Robert J. Ferguson Robert Ferguson is an asso- ciate professor of geophysics at the University of Calgary and a Director of the Consortium for Research in Elastic Wave Exploration Seismology (CREWES). Rob received a B.Sc. in Geophysics from the University of British Columbia in 1989, an M.Sc. in Geophysics from the University of Calgary in 1996, and a Ph.D. in Geophysics from the University of Calgary in 1999. He worked as a research scientist on the seismic-imaging team at Chevron. He then joined the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin before returning to the University of Calgary. Dr. Ferguson’s interests are in modeling, imaging , and inversion of multicom- ponent seismic data. Kris Innanen Kris Innanen is an Associate Professor of Geophysics at the University of Calgary. He received the B.Sc. degree from York University in Physics and Earth Science in 1996, the MSc degree from York in Physics in 1998, and the PhD from the University of British Columbia in Geophysics in 2003. R. Phillip Bording

R. Ed Krebes

Edward S. Krebes received aB.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics fromthe University of Alberta in1973, an M.Sc. in Physicsfrom the University ofBritish Columbia in 1974,and a Ph.D. in Geophysicsfrom the University ofAlberta in 1980. In 1979-80,he worked as an explorationgeophysicist for AMOCOCanada. He joined theUniversity of Calgary in1980, where he is now a

professor of geophysics in the Department of Geoscience. Hisprimary research interests are in theoretical and computationalseismology.

Don Lawton

Don Lawton is a Professor ofGeophysics and Chair inExploration Geophysics inthe Department ofGeoscience at the Universityof Calgary. He previouslyserved as Head of theDepartment from 1997 to2002. His research interestsinclude acquisition,processing and interpreta-tion of multicomponentseismic data, seismicanisotropy, integrated

geophysical and geological studies in complex geologicalsettings, and geological storage of CO2. He is an AssociateDirector of the Consortium for Research in Elastic Wave ExplorationSeismology (CREWES) and was recently appointed Theme Leadin Secure Carbon Storage for Carbon Management Canada, a$25M network of centres of excellence. He is a past Editor of theCanadian Journal of Exploration Geophysics, and was a recip-ient of a Meritorious Service Award from the Canadian Societyof Exploration Geophysicists (CSEG) in 1996 and the CSEGMedal in 2000. He is a member of SEG, AAPG, EAGE, CSEG,CSPG, ASEG, and APEGGA.

Diane Lespinasse

Diane Lespinasse receivedher B.Sc in GeophysicalEngineering fromUniversidad Simon Bolivar(USB) in Caracas Venezuela.In 2004 she worked for TRXConsulting processing andinterpreting VerticalElectrical Sounding data.She worked for Minpro C.Aas a seismic interpreterbefore moving toCalgary(2008). In September2009, Diane Lespinasse

joined the M.Sc Geophysics program at the University ofCalgary as part of the CREWES project. Since then, her researchhas been dedicated to study the seismic response of coalbeds.

Laurence Lines

Laurence “Larry” Linesreceived B.Sc. and M.Sc.geophysics degrees from theUniversity of Alberta (1971,1973) and a Ph.D. ingeophysics from theUniversity of BritishColumbia (1976). His indus-trial career included 17 yearswith Amoco in Calgary andTulsa (1976-1993). Followinga career in industry, Dr.Lines held theNSERC/Pe t ro -Canada

Chair in Applied Seismology at Memorial University ofNewfoundland (1993-1997) and the Chair in ExplorationGeophysics at the University of Calgary (1997-2002). From2002-2007, he served as the Head, Department of Geology andGeophysics at the University of Calgary. In professional service,Larry was the President of the Society of ExplorationGeophysicists (SEG) in 2008-2009. Previous to that, he servedthe SEG as Geophysics Editor (1977-99), Distinguished Lecturer,Geophysics Associate Editor, Translations Editor, PublicationsChairman, and as a member of The Leading Edge EditorialBoard. He has served as CJEG Editor twice. Larry and co-authors have won the SEG’s Best Paper in Geophysics Awardtwice (1988, 1995) and have twice won Honorable Mention forBest Paper (1986,1998). Larry is an Honorary Member of SEG,CSEG, and the Geophysical Society of Tulsa. Additionally, he isa member of APEGGA, CGU, EAGE, and AAPG. Larry ismarried with two children, and enjoys hobbies of choir, softball,and hiking with his Alaskan malamute.

Partha S. Routh

Partha obtained his B.Sc(Hons) (1991) and M.S. inExploration Geophysics

(1993) from Indian Instituteof Technology, Kharagpur,India and Ph.D. in

1999 from University ofBritish Columbia (UBC),Canada with the focus inelectromagnetic inversionproblems. After a post-doctoral fellowship at UBC-

Geophysical Inversion Facility he joined Conoco UpstreamTechnology in Oklahoma, USA. After 3 years he left industry tojoin academia to teach and carry out research in near surfacegeophysics at Boise State University. Shortly after he receivedtenure in 2007 he moved from Boise to Houston and joinedSubsurface Technology of ConocoPhillips. Currently he is atUpstream Research Company, ExxonMobil in Houston withresearch focus on Full-Wavefield Inversion. His primary inter-ests are in the area of inverse problems, appraisal analysis andits application to variety of subsurface problems. He is active inthe area of seismic imaging/inversion, time-lapse, near surfacegeophysics and multi-scale inversion. He is an Associate Editorof Geophysical Prospecting.

Taher Sodegar

Taher M. Sodagar receivedhis Ph.D. degree inGeophysics from Universityof Calgary in Canada in2011. The thesis title is“Multicomponent seismicmodeling and analysis forCO2 storage in the Redwaterreef, Alberta, Canada”. Hereceived the M.S. degree inGeology (Geophysics) fromUniversity of New Orleansin USA in 2002. The thesistitle is “Interpretation of 3-D

Seismic Data from Gulf of Mexico Using Hybrid Approach”. Heobtained the BS degree in Geology (Geophysics) from KingAbdul Aziz University in Saudi Arabia in 1994.

He has worked for Aramco Company since 1995 to date. Heworked as a geophysical data processor, interpreter andprospect generator.

Xiaoning Zhang

Xiaoning Zhang received aM. A. Sc. in ComputerEngineering and a M. Eng.in Electrical Engineeringfrom Memorial Universityof Newfoundland in 2006and 2009, respectively. Hehas been working as adesign engineer at AlteraCorporation since gradua-tion in 2009. His researchinterests include reconfig-urable computing withFPGA's, digital communica-tion, and digital circuitdesign in optical transmis-sion networks.
