An Overview
Army Multimedia in Army Structure
Army Multimedia reports to the Director of Army Public Affairs (DAPA)
DAPA reports, via COS Land Ops, to Chief of Land Staff (CLS), head of the Canadian Army
Unit Founded:
2003 - Initiative of Gen Rick Hillier, then CLS, now CDS retired
AND
LCol Rèjean Duscheneau, then DAPA, now head of CF Public Affairs training
Mandate:
Help shape Army culture by using modern communications techniques
Connect with Canadians
Audience:
Regular and reserve soldiers; Army families; veterans

2005 - addition of Field Production Teams at Wainright, Shilo and Toronto bring number of FTPs to 12

Field Team Locations
Field Team Composition
FTPs composed of Army Sergeant (Any) Reporter and Air Force MCpl Image Tech – A PAO in each Area helps coordinate team activities with Ottawa HQ.
Reporters have come from all major Army trades, including infantry, artillery, armour, engineering, comms and logistics.

Three Month Intensive Multimedia Journalism Course each September
DPALC NCM PA Course – five AN members currently loaded on course - 18 Candidates being trained in all
Video journalism, multimedia production, writing for the Web, still imagery, Public Affairs theory and practice, etc.
Additional Training
Three day New Technology Sessions – e.g. Final Cut Pro, Hi Definition TV, Web Social Media, Project Planning and Management – Mil and Civ
On the Job training and rotation to Ottawa for Mil Pers

Special Projects
Produces a variety of specialty video products. For example:
Documentaries: Basic Up and Basic Up Reloaded – reality series about basic training – 30 minute videos x 15 episodes – Eng and Fre versions
Memory Boxes: For the families of the fallen
Promotional DVDs: E.G. Army Ethics; “Advancing with Purpose”; “COIN – Clear, Hold, Build”; others as approved by DAPA
