Rules: The following rules players should familiarize themselves with: C- Calvary, E- Errata, F- Fortifications, G- Guns, P- PTO, R- Unique Rules, SSR, or Victory Conditions; and V- Vehicles

ROAR: The scenario’s Win-Loss for Attacker–Defender

Time: Typical playing time (does not include set up time); please ensure to pick your scenarios with a mind on the time required to set up and play the scenario. It is much preferred that players determine who wins, rather than leaving it to the judges and the adjudication process – you might not be happy with the result.

THE AUSTRALIAN BALANCING SYSTEM

Used in PBP-22 Morire in Belleze and ASLUG 1 – Mount Pissoderi, the Australian Balancing System (ABS) each side is given three levels of handicapping: x1, x2, and x3. In all cases the handicaps grow progressively more powerful as you move from one to three. The handicaps are not cumulative unless stated as such. For example in ASLUG 1 – Mount Pissoderi, handicap G3 includes both G1 and G2, since G2 is stated to contain G1. Each player secretly chooses which side he prefers. If the players choose different sides, play the scenario as published. If both want the same side, either player may reverse himself and take the other side straight up. If neither does, each player then secretly bids using the ABS system choosing a level of handicap (0-3) for the preferred side. The player choosing the highest handicap gets the preferred side, but gives up the handicap he bid. The lower bidder receives the other side. If both players choose the same level of handicap for the preferred side, then make a DR for sides. The high roll receives the preferred side but with the handicap (or none if both bid zero) both players bid, the low roll receives the other side. This process sounds confusing, but is actually very simple. Here’s an example using “Mount Pissoderi”. Both players want to play the Greeks. Since both players have chosen the same side, and neither player wants to revert to the Italians – the players must bid. Player A bids G1, Player B bids G2. Player B wins the bid, so he plays the Greeks at G0 (no balance). Player A plays the Italians, but receives the Greek G2 handicap (which is to add a 9-1 to Italian OB and delete SSR 3). In another playing, both players bid G1. In this case a DR is made. Player A wins the DR and plays the Greek with G0; Player B gets the Italians with the G1 handicap, which is to add a 9-1 leader to the Italian OB. You will notice that the handicaps are reversed; i.e., G1 actually helps the Italian. This process is why we refer to them as a “handicap” the other side is receiving the help.
