Canada is a country in North America and is also the second largest country in the world. The word “Canada” comes from an old Huron word “kanata” which means “settlement” or “village”. In 1535, inhabitants of the area near Quebec City used the word to direct the French explorer Jacques Cartier towards the village of Stadacona, a settlement on the site of Quebec City. This is how Canada got its name.
