Winter/Spring 2011 Camyr allyn wines Dear Club Member, The preprunning that I spoke of last winter worked very well. It was about 70% effective leaving me to remove tendrils and short shoots off the top wire and box end assemblies and Judy using the electric pruners to knock down the last five inches to a two bud spur. We will use it again this year and by the time you get this we will have started. Club 2011 packs This year the Club White six pack will consist of two 2011 Verdelho, two 2010 Rose and one each of the 2010 Sparkling White and 2011 Sparkling Rose. The response to last years vertical tasting Reds packs was so good that we are going to extend that again this year. That will mean that some of the wines will have basic Club labels on them but for those wanting to see the changes that age, seasonal conditions and vine maturity can make it will be worth- while. The pack will contain one each of 2009 Merlot, 2007 Merlot, 2006 Merlot, 2005 Merlot and a 2007 Shiraz and 2005 Shiraz. Naturally the dozen pack will contain all the above. The white six pack will be $110 and the Reds $120. The dozen is $230 and freight will be just $12 per six pack and $15 per 12 pack. If you have changed address, received new cards or updated expiry dates please let us know so that we can adjust your records. If you wish to change the composition of your pack please ring us as soon as possible. The white six pack will be sent out the last week in June, the dozen packs in July and the red six pack in August. New Vintages We are delighted with the wines that Liz Jackson is making for us and she deserves her recent award as Hunter Winemaker of the year. The 2011 Verdelho is crisp and refreshing with a well rounded mouth feel. If you have enjoyed our 2009 and 2010 Verdelho this wine is sure to please. The 2010 Sparkling White and 2011 Sparkling Rose are predominately made from our Pinot Noir grapes. The first sniff of the Sparkling White prepares your taste buds for the creamy characters tempered by a dry clean finish. The Sparkling Rose, left on skins a little longer, displays a cheeky pink colour understating the depth of flavour in this wine. Just enough sweet- ness to take the edge off the balanced acidity this wine is a perfect accompaniment to cheese and a warm sunset. The 2010 Rose is a similar style to previous years and is already proving a big hit in cellar door. There are some occasions when a chilled Rose is the perfect wine. Cellar Door Music The music days continue to be popular with members and locals alike. This year we have had Bo Jenkins and The Grumpy old men at Cellar door and Vince Melouney in conjunction with the Beatty Hotel. Unfortunately we were forced to cancel the Frohlich brothers on the June long weekend due to the rain but they will be playing at cellar door on Saturday 16th of July. If it is raining that day we will transfer it to the Beatty Hotel.

Despite early rain it was not a bad vintage. The Pinot Noir and Verdelho were picked on time and the grapes were in good condi-tion, disease free and full of flavor. The Merlot once again came in before the Shiraz and were excellent despite some late rain on them. The usual week of temperatures nudging 40 degrees followed by three inches of rain offered a challenge for the Shiraz so stocks will be limited.

All in all a pretty good compared with 2010.

The Club Specials continue to be popular and well supported by Club members. The Summer special winner was Rhonda McMaster winning an enjoyable two night stay at Cabins in the Clouds. We also enjoyed dinner and a couple of wines with Rhonda and Ean here at Camyr Allyn North.

We will have another Two Night Special coming up soon.
