CDSS bids Sheralyn Dobos, Family Violence Action Society Program Director good-bye, as she has officially retired effective July 31st. Due to Covid regulations around gatherings, it was not possible to host a much deserved community farewell for Sheralyn! If you wish to send congratulations to Sheralyn please email [email protected] and we will be sure to forward them to her!
CDSS is excited to welcome Lyndel Kasa, our new Family Violence Action Society Program Director.
Hi! I am Lyndel Kasa and I am thrilled to join the team as the new Program Director of Family Violence Action Society.
I have a Diploma in Nursing from the Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science of Nursing from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Centre, a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management from the University of Phoenix, and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix.
I was born and raised on a farm outside of Camrose, moved away for a few years for school and to begin my career as a Registered Nurse, and then eventually made my way back home to the Camrose area.
My most recent position was working with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Nursing as the Program Coordinator and Assistant Teaching Professor. In my work with nursing students, I developed many meaningful connections with a variety of local community agencies that will continue to be essential partnerships as I begin in this new role.
I love working with people, encouraging them to be their best, supporting them in their journey, and celebrating with them in their accomplishments. I am looking forward to working with people to promote healthy relationships, providing education and awareness about family violence, and engaging with community partners on new initiatives.

Battle River Community Foundation Grants 2020
The Battle River Community Foundation is now receiving applications for grants
from our Community Fund and Field of Interest Funds. Organizations applying for
grants should note that amounts available to grant are based on prior year
investment income. Our income has been affected by the COVID-19 grants we
awarded, but there are funds to distribute in our “regular” program this year.
Grants are made to organizations operating in east-central Alberta that are recognized as
qualified donees by the Canada Revenue Agency. This includes registered charitable
organizations and municipalities.
Organizations seeking funds must demonstrate a strong and committed volunteer board of
directors, fiscal responsibility, and effective management of resources. Projects that impact
the greatest number of individuals possible with a modest investment of funds are preferred.
Grants are made for definite purposes and for projects covering a specific time period. In
general, grants are approved for projects not met by other funding sources.
In addition to unrestricted grants available from the Community Fund, some Funds provide
grants targeted to projects reflecting donors’ interests. They include: Animal Welfare, the
Arts, Brain Injury Prevention, Education, the Humanities, Health and Wellness including
Mental and Emotional Health and Wellness, the Humanities, Literacy, Music, Nutrition and
Food Security, Outdoor Education, Palliative Care, Preservation and Protection of the
Environment, Preservation of History, Prevention of Family Violence, Services for Individuals
with Special Needs, Sustainable Agriculture, Youth Athletics, and Youth Projects and
Programs.
The deadline for 2020 applications is Saturday, August 15, 2020.
Grants will be announced in December. Applications may be sent by
mail, delivered to our office or emailed.
For further information and/or an application form, please check our web site at
www.brcf.ca, email [email protected], call our office at 780 679 0449 or write Battle
