The ProgramCampus Abroad is a short-term study abroadprogram that Università Bocconi organizes in co-operation with partner universities around theworld.

It is an intensive intercultural experience that al-lows you to take advantage of the break in theacademic calendar to spend one monthabroad, offering you an opportunity to:

• prepare yourself through an initial interna-tional exposure within a program entirely co-ordinated on-site by a Bocconi ProgramManager, in view of longer international experi-ences (e.g. Exchange, Double Degree, Intern-ship Programs Abroad)

• enrich your curriculum with an internationalacademic experience (a Bocconi electivecourse of your 3rd year taught by Bocconi fac-ulty and professors from the host school)

• be prepared to succeed in global culture aswell as gain a deeper insight into internationalissues in a particular geographic area (guest lec-turers to familiarize you with the economic, so-cial and cultural environment of a new country)

• create a bridge between the conceptual theo-ries, methodologies and techniques taught inclass and their application to real case studies,as well as explore career options, getting incontact with organizations, public institutionsand business companies (corporate and insti-tutional visits)

The program provides:• a Bocconi elective course, taught in English

by Bocconi and local professors• country specific seminars on economic, social,

political and cultural aspects of the host countryheld by local faculty and experts

• visits to companies, local institutions, interna-tional organizations, etc.

The Campus Abroad program is especially aimedat 2nd year undergraduate students, regularlyenrolled in a Bocconi Bachelor degree, and ittakes place within the summer of their 2nd to 3rdyear.3rd year students (not graduating before October2012) may also apply, but they will be consideredin the selection process only after all 2nd year ap-plicants.

Academic requirements• GPA: minimum 22/30 (average weighted on

credits)• Credits: at least 60% of 1st year credits regis-

tered Requirements must be met by 11 February 2012.

Language requirementsIf your native language is not English and if you arenot enrolled in a Bocconi Bachelor degree taughtin English (BIEMF), you must prove a goodknowledge of the English language (level B2or higher). If you do not have any English languageInternational certificate or any other valid qualifica-tion (refer to the Bocconi Language Center table),you must sit the English language test set bythe Study Abroad Office on 8 March 2012.You will be able to enroll in the test at the momentof your application on Punto Blu.

Selection processSelection is based on an evaluation of merit, tak-ing into consideration your academic weighted av-erage and the number of credits registered up to11 February 2012. You will receive 0.1 weightedpoints for each credit above the minimum numberof credits required. These points will be added toyour credit-weighted average, calculated accord-ing to the criteria described above.

Summer 2012 Courses and DestinationsAustralia – Brisbane University of QueenslandFounded in 1909, the University of Queensland isone of the oldest and most prestigious universitiesin Australia. It is a founding member of the “Groupof Eight”, a coalition of leading Australian Univer-sities.In 2011 it was ranked among the top 80 universi-ties in the world according to the World UniversityRankings (Times Higher Education Supplement -QS). UQ has had a partnership with Bocconi onthe exchange program since 2006.

Course: Accounting and Industry Specifications(Bocconi code 30162)Bocconi Faculty: Antonio Marra, Angela Kate Pettinicchio

The course intends to provide students with thedifferent tools to perform a sound and accuratefinancial statement analysis and to assess com-pany performance and the quality of accountingdisclosure across different industries. The mainaccounting valuation issues will then be dis-cussed focusing on different sector-industries,analyzing company business models acrosssectors and the relative impact that accountingchoices might have for financial analysis, inter-pretation and companies valuation purposes.Fashion, Real Estate, Banking, Food and Bev-erage, High Tech, Shipyard and Airline sectors,among others, will be analyzed and compared.Basic knowledge of accounting is welcome. Theapproach will be strongly interactive, case stud-ies will be developed and discussed making ref-erence to real companies and financialstatements.

Canada – Burnaby (Vancouver) Simon Fraser University – Beedie School of BusinessSince the creation of Canada’s first ExecutiveMBA in 1968, SFU Business has been one of thetop Canadian business schools, accredited by theAACSB (Association to Advance CollegiateSchools of Business). SFU has had a partnershipwith Bocconi on the exchange program since2004, and so far 7 editions of the Campus AbroadProgram have taken place.

China – ShanghaiFudan UniversityFounded in 1905, Fudan is the main university inShanghai and a PIM member. This prestigious uni-versity has had an exchange agreement with Boc-coni since 2004. In 2006, Bocconi and Fudanjointly developed a Double Degree program in In-ternational Management. In the summer 2012 itwill host the 11th edition of a Campus Abroad.

Course: Entrepreneurial Strategy (Bocconi code 30218)Bocconi Faculty: Giovanni Valentini, Irene Dagnino

In this class we will explore the nature of entre-preneurial strategies. We will analyze the com-petitive environments that entrepreneurs face:how new entrants alter competition, how indus-tries are created and destroyed through com-petition, and how entrepreneurship canultimately generate economic growth. We willalso examine the internal management of entre-preneurial ventures. We will study how entrepre-neurs create and develop new ventures, launchnew technologies, and initiate new businessmodels. Finally, we will explore how entrepre-neurial attitudes and actions can be encouragedwithin a business. Our ultimate goal is to trainfuture managers who can recognize and man-age both the potential and the threats of entre-preneurial strategies, creating and sustainingcompetitive advantage.

USA – Evanston (Chicago) Northwestern UniversityNorthwestern University was founded in 1851. Itis one of the top research universities in the UnitedStates and in 2012 it was ranked as the 12th BestCollege in the country. Northwestern Universitysigned an Exchange agreement with UniversitàBocconi, starting in the 2011-2012 a.y.

Course: Economics of Globalization(Bocconi code 30168)Bocconi Faculty: Fausto Panunzi, Paolo Epifani

The course aims to provide a broad perspectiveon the main issues involved in the ongoingprocess of global integration of goods and finan-cial markets. The course begins with a brief de-scription of the main facts of the current wave ofglobalization in historical perspective. It then dis-cusses some critical current issues concerningtrade and exchange rate policies, the relocationof manufacturing plants from the developed tothe developing world, growing income inequalityand firms’ (in)ability to go global. The final part ofthe course will focus instead on the causes andconsequences of the recent global financial cri-sis. The above topics will be addressed usingsimple (mainly graphical) tools.

USA - WashingtonGeorgetown University - McDonough Schoolof Business Founded in 1789, the same year the U.S. Consti-tution took effect, Georgetown University is one ofthe oldest and most prestigious universities in theUS. In the summer 2012 it will host the 4th editionof a Campus Abroad program.

Course: Corporate Banking (Bocconi code 30173)Bocconi Faculty: Giuliano Iannotta, Brunella Bruno

The course is focused on the analysis of corpo-rate banking activities. The main goal of the pro-gram is to offer both a clear framework and aset of operative tools to understand the relation-ship between firms and the financial system.After a brief introduction dedicated to the com-petitive framework and strategies, specific at-tention is given to corporate finance deals.

At the time of enrollment you can indicate up to fivechoices in order of preference. Waiting lists will becompiled for each destination.

AcademicsThe exam is fully recognized as a Bocconi examand no “recognition procedure” is required. Thecourses taught within the Campus Abroad Programare open to students from all Bocconi Bachelor de-grees. To have exams and corresponding creditsregistered in your academic career, you must passthe final exam and participate in both classes andrelated activities. On completion of the program, thecourse is registered in your academic career, as longas it conforms to the program structure regulations,either as an elective course or additional course. Thecourse, which is held entirely in English, may countas one of the minimum number of exams to betaken in English.

CostsParticipants are responsible for the followingcosts:• program fees

- registration fee (€ 200, fixed)- participation fee* (variable)

• airfare and travelling expenses• visa to enter the country of destination

(when required)• teaching material• insurance: health insurance is compulsoryfor the entire period spent abroad

• board (when not included) and extra costs*The participation fee varies according to the destination. Itincludes tuition, use of campus facilities (where indicated),accommodation in university dorms, residences or hotelsfor the entire duration of the program, transportation forcompulsory activities, on-site Program Manager and organ-izing costs.

ScholarshipsEvery year around 80 scholarships granted byISU Bocconi (Student Assistance and FinancialAid Center) are available for the Campus Abroadprogram participants.
