PRATO - AGUMESPARISH CHURCH “MARIA KÖNIGIN”The church was built from 1956-1958, the design is from Otto Linder, the paintings in the high altar and the glass paintings are from Romuald Hengstler, the graffi to at the two side altars are from the local painter Hans Ebensperger and the organ from the fi rm Mathis from Näfels (Switzerland). Renovation in the year 2002.

CHURCH SAN GIOVANNI – “STAIRWAYS TO HEAVEN” A Romanesque construction with a contrast-ing round apse and a fl at roofed, elongated building. Along the northern wall of these building remains of Romanesque frescoes can be seen, while the apse contains paint-ings dating from around 1420 from the Venosta School. Since 2006 member of the project “Stairways to heaven”.

PILGRIMAGE CHURCH OF SAN GIORGIO IN AGUMESDuring the years 1303 - 1958, the Church of San Giorgio was the parish church of Prato - Agumes. Early parts of the building, mentioned in 1303, are in the Romanesque style while the remainder was rebuilt around the year 1500 in the Gothic style. In 1705 the side chapel was added and nowadays, a large “Figure of Our Lord” stands at the altar together with a life-size miraculous crucifi x from the 14th century. NEW PARISH CHURCH OF SOLDACurate Eller (1863 - 1900) is the person which decided to build the new parish church, the sister of the curate, Kathi Eller, provided the site for building of the church and of the cemetery. The style of the church is new Romanesque. The parish church is dedicated to the Saint Gertraud from Nivelle.

PROTESTANT CHAPEL The chapel was built in the year 1904 next to the Grand Hotel Sulden. In the high season takes place church services.

MONTECHIARO CASTLE RUIN AT MONTECHIAROUntil 1513, this extensive castle was in the possession of the Counts of Tyrol and after that ownership passed to the Counts of Khuen – Belasi, to whom it still belongs (the castle fell into ruin in the 19th century). The magnifi cent series of frescoes (1400) was almost completely removed in 1912 and was gaved to the Ferdinandeum Museum in Innsbruck

PARISH CHURCH OF THE TRINITYThe church for the fi rst time was mentioned in the year 1313, it is situated at the upper end of the village and it shows the art of the Venosta Valley.

CHAPEL SAINT CHRISTINA AT PINETThe chapel is situated on a prehistoric hill and was built in the year 1575. In the interior there are a lot of murals which show scenes of the martyrdom of the Saint Christina. Renovation in autumn 2010.

TRAFOIPILGRIMAGE CHAPEL ”THE THREE HOLY FOUNTAINS“This little place of pilgrimage is located in splendid isolation at the end of a small valley carved out in between the glaciers. To the chapel you can arrive to the path no. 8.

SOLDAOLD PARISH CHURCH OF SOLDAThe exact year when the church was built is unknown, but in the year 1369 the church was mentioned in writings. According the experts the oldest parts of the church are from the 14th century. During the renovation in the eighties were discovered ornamentations and frescos. The murals shows the Christ’s Way of the Cross, the crucifi xion and the funeral.

SLUDERNOCHURBURGBuilt in the 13th century by the earls of Trapp. In the 16th century extended to the most beautiful Renaissance-residence of South Tyrol. Today it takes part of one of the best conditioned castles. Worth seeing is the most considerable collection of armours of the world.

SOLDAMMM – MESSNER MOUNTAIN MUSEUM ORTLESThe museum at Solda, an underground structure at 1900 m above sea-level, is devoted to the world of ice.“At the end of the world” we call it. That is what it says on a 1771 map drawn by Peter Anich showing the glacier on the Ortler, beneath which the Ice Museum is located. At MMM Ortles Reinhold Messner tells of the Terrors of Ice and Darkness, Snow People and Snow Lions, the Whiteout and the Third Pole. The museum houses the world’s biggest collection of Ortler paintings as well as ice-climbing gear from two centuries. Skiing, ice-climbing and expeditions to the Poles are the themes. Visitors fi nd themselves inside the mountain, where they are given a clear picture of ice mountains, the Arctic and Antarctic, the power of avalanches, and the pains taken by artists to depict the world of ice. MUSEUM FOR THE ORTLES REGION The “Museum for the Ortles Region” is an outpouring of passion and love of the Ortles region, it is situated in the ground fl oor of the primary school. A stroll through the history and the culture of the Ortles region, together with a special exhibition commemorating the 1915 - 1918 World War and also a rare and beautiful collection of minerals from the area. The museum will transport you back through 100 years of tourism in the Ortles region with its Alpine refuges, its sponsors and its pioneers from the history of this Alpine village at the foot of the Ortles. The mountain guides accompany you if you want to scale the highest mountain in South Tyrol the Ortles (3905 m). Detailed program you get at the tourist offi ces.

BIKING & MOUNTAIN BIKE In the Venosta Valley awaits you 150 km of biking paths, simple routs for families but also ambitious routs of mountain bike. Cycling maps and proposals for mountain bike tours you can get at the tourist offi ces.In summer are organized every week guided biking tours, besides there is from Monday to Thursday a shuttle bus for biker and families which brings you from Prato allo Stelvio to the Lago di Resia. More information to the week program and reservation you get at the tourist offi ces.

SUMMER SKIINGThe Passo Stelvio (2757 - 3400 m) is the biggest summer ski resort of Europe. To get to the ski resort you drive on the famous Alpine street, the Passo Stelvio road. Opening hours of the ski resort: late May to the beginning of November from 8.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.

TENNISIn the Ortles Holiday Region there are a lot of possibilities to play tennis. In the sport centre at Solda there are 2 indoor tennis courts. At Prato allo Stelvio there are 2 courts at the end of the village and one in the sport centre.

FISHINGThe day tickets for the fi shing with licence of the state (Adige and Rio Trafoi) you can get at Baldi Sport, Via Nuova 19, Prato, tel. +39 0473 617071Private fi shing with day ticket but without licence of the state it is possible at the fi shing pond of Prato allo Stelvio and at the fi shing pond of Stelvio.

GOLFThe golf course amongst the famous “Palabirn” pear trees you can fi nd at Montechiaro. The three-hole golf course and the driving range are situated between the castle ruin and the Churburg, an unique scenery.Minigolf - fun for the whole family! You can play at Prato allo Stelvio at the Ortlerhof and at Solda near the lake Solda.

WATER STEPAt Prato allo Stelvio you fi nd near the path no. 7 a pool with cold water where you can step into the water, it is ideal to cool down after a walk.At Solda it is also the possibility to step in water.The new “bear bath” is situated at the end of the valley, near the parking lot of the Cable Car Solda. The “bear bath” consists exclusive of natural materials and is situated in an idyllic wood.

OPEN-AIR POOL AT PRATO The open-air pool is open from mid-June to the end of August, it offers two pools, a water slide, a new adventure-area for kids, a big lawn for sunbathing and a snack-bar. Other offers are: aquarobics cours, swimming course and concerts in the evening.

JOGGING & SKATINGAt Prato allo Stelvio you fi nd ideal possibilities for jogging and skating, some proposals: fi elds of Prato allo Stelvio, bicycle route to the fi shing pond (only jogging) and to Montechiaro and the path no. 10 through the pine wood (only for jogging). At Trafoi is the path no. 8 to the Three Holy Fountains ideal for jogging, at Solda the culture promenade invites you to jogging. Also the path from Gomagoi to Stelvio (and reversed) is suitable.

“WAALWEGE” IRRIGATION CHANNEL“Waale” are ancient irrigation channels which have the aim to bring the water to the fi elds of the arid Venosta Valley.“Frauwaal”: from the bridge Solda at Prato allo Stelvio the path goes along the bank till the end of the village, ascent to the ”Frauwaal” (path no. 9). The end of the path is either the church San Giorgio or Montechiaro. In the past the “Waal” conducted water but today is without water.“Agumser Bergwaal”: from the bridge Solda at Prato allo Stelvio the path go direction Gargitz, passing the Patzleidhof and than you have to take the left junction to Ponte Stelvio. You can go on to Stelvio. In the past the “Waal” conducted water but today is without water.

THE STELVIO NATIONAL PARK The Stelvio National Park is one situated in the heart of the Central Alps, it covers an area of approximately 130,700 ha. It includes the entire mountain region of Ortler-Cevedale and its adjoining valleys, extending in the north as far as the Swiss Engadine National Park and in the south as far as the Adamello Regional Park in Lombardy. In 1935, this area was declared to be a National Park with the aim of preserving the region’s scenery, fl ora and fauna. From the glacier capped mountain (the Ortles - 3905 m) across pasture land and sloping terraces right down to the fl oors of the valley (Latsch - 650 m),the Stelvio National Park displays the entire gamut of Alpine features.We take you to crystal-clear glacier lakes and bubbling mountain streams.

THE GOLDSEE TRAIL - FROM THE PASSO STELVIO TO THE REFUGE FORCOLAFirst we enjoy a panorama travel by bus to the Passo Stelvio where our hiking starts. SOLDA A NATURARONDA (PART)The trail no. 1 starts at the “bear bath” direction “Legerwand”. From there you across the new suspension bridge with view at the waterfall of the Rio Solda and then the path no. 2 (Ertlsteig) bring you back to Solda.Duration of walking: 2 hours

A variation of the hike is also to go the path no. 1 to the middle station of the Cable Car Solda and then cross the bridge and take the trail no. 2 which brings back to Solda.

B CULTURE PROMENADE SOLDAThe Sulden Culture Promenade is an 8 km roundtrip hiking trail with a slight elevation differential. It will take you all around the Solda Valley fl oor and to several excellent look-out points and places of interest. You can choose from a number of different starting points. All year round you can go for a walk at the promenade.Duration of walking: circa 3 hours (suitable for baby carriage)

C ZUMPANELL STONE QUARRYDeparture from Solda di Fuori, across the bridge and as far as ”Bodenhof“ then on path no. 26 to the Zumpanell stone quarry. A demandig excursion with magnifi cent panorma. Descent along the same path no. 26 along path no. 14 (Herrensteig) as far as Goma-goi, or along path no. 14 passing the ”Obere Schäferhütte“, as far as path no. 19. TRAFOI D GOLDSEE TRAIL (PANORAMIC TRAIL)The panoramic trail starts at the Refuge Forcola 2153 m (you can arrive with the chair-lift or by foot from Trafoi at the path no. 17) and brings you on the path no. 20 to the famous Passo Stelvio 2760 m. Along the path you fi nd information about the World War I, the veg-etation and the geology. The trail is near the frontier of Switzerland, you have a unique panorama view on the Ortles and the Passo Stelvio.Duration of walking: 4 hoursDifference in altitude: 607 m (from the Refuge Forcola) 1200 m (from the village Trafoi)You can return form the Passo Stelvio with the public bus

E THREE GLACIER PATHFrom Sotto Stelvio 2220 m along path no. 13 and then along path no. 14 towards the Madriccio Glacier. From there towards the three glaciers over glacier moraine to the Refuge Borletti 2188 m (possi-bility to eat). F WAR TRAILThe trail starts at Sotto Stelvio 2220 m, on the path no. 22 you go over the Cima del Segnale to the Passo Stelvio. The trail was very important during the World War I, it was used to bring the supplies to the battle line. G CAMPO PICCOLOFrom the Refuge Forcola (you can arrive with the chair-lift) on the path no. 17 to Campo Piccolo, here we see remains of old Austrian artillery and defence positions can be found.Duration of walk: 60 minutes

PASSO STELVIO H SCORLUZZOFrom the Stelvio Pass 2760 m there is a path leading towards Monte Scorluzzo 3094 m. This path was during the World War I in the forefront of combat. PRATO ALLO STELVIO E STELVIO I ARCHAIC TRAILFrom the bridge Solda to Gargitz-Mitterhof-Patzleid after the barbecue area the trail no. 11 goes at the right to Gaschlin, at left the descent to the Rhaeto-Romanic village Stelvio 1300 m. Along the trail you pass settlement of hunters, gatherers, and miners of the chalcolithic period, from there also the name “Archaic trail” - archaic means “ancient, old, primeval”.From the village Stelvio with the narrow alleys you take the trail no. 9 to Ponte Stelvio, from there direction “Agumser Bergwaal” over Patzleid back to Prato allo Stelvio.Duration of walking: 4 - 5 hoursDifference of altitude: 400 mFrom Stelvio it is also possible to return with the public bus to Prato allo Stelvio.

J MOUNTAIN PASTURE TRAILThe starting point is the Refuge Forcola 2250 m (you can arrive with the chair-lift or by foot from Trafoi at the path no. 17), from there we come to the mountain pasture Prato allo Stelvio (here you can buy butter and cheese). On a narrow path you arrive the mountain pas-ture Stelvio 2064 m, also here you can buy milk products. From the mountain pasture you take the trail no. 11 to the Forcella Agumes and then the trail no. 12a to the castle ruin of Montechiaro, descent to the village Montechiaro. From the little village you return either on the bicycle route by foot or the public bus to Prato allo Stelvio.Duration of walking: 6,5 hoursDifference of altitude: 1250 mFrom Prato allo Stelvio you take the public bus to Trafoi.A variation of the hike is that you can take from the Forcella Agumes the trail no. 12 which brings you to Prato allo Stelvio.

TRAFOI N PATH TO THE THREE HOLY FOUNTAINSThe starting point is the visitor centre naturatrafoi, we pass the church and go through the wood on the path no. 8 to the Three Holy Fountains. To here the trail is suitable for baby carriage. The circular walk no. 9 starts near an enclosure to the waterfalls of Trafoi and back to the Three Holy Fountains.Duration of walking: to the Three Holy Fountains circa 45 minutes for the whole trail circa 3 hours

GOMAGOI O RAMBLE FROM GOMAGOI TO STELVIOThe comfortable family trail starts at Gomagoi (beside Garni Rosen-heim) and takes through the wood to the fi shing pond of Stelvio, there are a lot of seats and the possibility to have a barbecue.Duration of walking: 45 minutes

PRATO ALLO STELVIO P PINE FOREST - SPONDIGNA VECCHIA - FISHING PONDFrom the Pineta continue on the path no. 10 to the proximity of Spondigna Vecchia. Then turn right towards the fi shing ponds, there is a bar with restaurant and a playground. Return to the village by the way of the sport fi eld. The path is suitable for baby carriage.Duration of walking: 1,5 hoursNo difference of altitude

K GUMPERLE PATH AT PRATO ALLO STELVIO/AGUMESIn the form of games and texts the path allows parents and kids to gain insight about the animals living in our local forest. In 13 interesting stations, many different games await the families. Together with the wood mouse Ferdinand, the parents and their kids search for animal tracks, listen to bird voices, lift up a horn of a deer, work themselves through a tunnel and climb up the woodpecker-hill. Descent down the ski run, after the middle station on path no. 17 to Trafoi. Good physical condition required.Difference of altitude: 620 m

Follow the road after the fi rst left turn (1) - not toward Valatsches, on the dirt track a steep winding path. After the Malga Stelvio di Sotto a steeper gradiant to the Malga Stelvio di Sopra. Return along the same path till the left curve (1), from there straight ahead, passing a farm barn and then downhill to the village of Stelvio. From there along the state road to the place of departure.Difference of altitude: 700 m

PRATO ALLO STELVIO Y TOUR OF PRATO ALLO STELVIOFrom the village towards ”Nittwiesen“, trail no. 7 and from there on till ”Platzgernunhof“ 1200 m. Along trails and forestry paths till 1307 m, picturesque descent past the Church of San Giovanni.Difference of altitude: 410 m

Z MONTONIFrom Prato allo Stelvio along the cycle path to the village Montechia-ro. Pass the ruins on the asphalt road on the left leading to the farms above Montechiaro. Then on to the forestry path ”Montoni - malga di Montechiaro“, mostly climbing steeply till the ”Schartalp“. Follow the path no. 12 to the barrier. Pass the ”Schartalp“ and descend on the gravel road. Continue on the asphalt raod between a few farmsteads and then steeply downhill to the entrance to Stelvio. From there, along the access road to Gomagoi then along the Passo Stelvio road to Prato allo Stelvio.Difference of altitude: 980 m
