Security

MeetsLayeredNetworkSecurityGuidelines

Thenetworksecurityguidelinesstatethatthesystemwillcontainthefollowing:

Securedauthentication,complexpasswordrequirements,securesocketslayer

(SSL),Webencryption,enterprise-levelnetworkfirewalls,databaseencryption,password

encryption,systemhardeningprocedures,abackupandrestoreprocess,disasterrecovery

capability,andthecapabilitytocompletelyredactoromitinformationfromanInternet

postingoftheform.

Thus,oursystemwillrunundertheHTTPSprotocolthatoperatesaboveSSLandusesweb

encryptionwithacertificatesignedbyVeriSigntomeettheaboverequirementsofSSLandweb

encryption.Asourproductwillrunonacloudhostingsolution,itwillhaveenterprise-level

firewallsinherentlybuiltin.Otherbenefitsofusingthecloudsolutionincludesystemhardening

(patches,minimalinstalledsoftwareonservers,andfurthermaintenance),meaningthatthequality

systemvulnerabilityprotectionsconstantlyupdatedbythecloudsolutionusedbythousandsofthe

Internetstopwebsiteswillbemadeavailabletoourservice probono.1

UsesSecuredAuthentication

OursolutionwillutilizestandardizedpasswordauthenticationpassedoverSSLmeaningthat

sensitivelogindataisautomaticallyencrypted.Thepasswordsarestoredhashedusingthebcrypt

algorithmandasalt,whichmeanstheyareprotectedagainstbrute-forcerainbowtableattacks.An

attackerattemptingtoauthenticatewouldalsoneedtoknowtheunderlyingsaltinordertobreak

in.

UsesComplexPasswords

Wewillrequiretheusertocreatecomplexpasswordsthatrequireaminimumof8characters,a

mixtureofuppercaseandlowercaseletters,andatleastonenumberorsymbol.Itwillalsodisallow

themostcommonavailablepasswords.Thisrequirementaimstoavoidthebasicbreak-in

techniqueofmatchingthepasswordfromalookuptableofpasswords(whichoftenincludesone

suchasPassword1.

Ourunderlyingsolutionprovidesaproprietary,configurableformbuilderthatallowstheuserto

add,remove,andreplaceForm700webformfields.Theusercanalsoaddallapplicabletooltips,

connectfieldstobepre-populated,andaddrequiredformvalidations.Thisformbuilder

automaticallyconvertstheformitcreatesintothecurrentlyusedwebform.Thismeansthatthere

Preface-MongoDBforConfigurabilityandaCRUDAPItoSend/ReceiveData

Duetothehighlyconfigurablenatureoftheform700requirements,atraditionalSQLsolutionis

notfeasibleasthenatureofthedataisinherentlychangeableandunstructured.Forthisreason,we

havechosentheNoSQLdatabasecalledMongoDB.Itallowsforeasyexpansionoftheformwith

newschedulesandupdatedfields.Meanwhile,MongoDBstillprovidesthenicetiesofaSQLsolution

suchasuniqueidentificationnumbers.UsingaCRUDinterface(create,read,update,delete)onthe

backend,mostoftherequirementsofthissectionaremet,astheCRUDprovidesaschemastructure

ontotheschemalessMongoDB.

FullRecoveryWithin2HoursofNonISPRelatedOutage

Iftheservicecrashes,itwillbeimmediatelybroughtbackonlinebytheautomaticdisasterrecovery

toolusedbythecloudsolution.Theservicewillnotcrashduetohighloadsandwillautomatically

scaletoasustainablesize.Thecloudservicesolutionguaranteesatleast99.9%,whichmeans

worst-caseperformanceisadowntimeof43minutespermonthfromtheISP.

Inaddition,ifabugshouldbedetectedforsomeusers,therewillbenodowntimeforusersnot

experiencingthebug.Ourservicewillsimplyreplacetheserverssequentiallysothattheywillnot

experienceanyofit.Bugdetectionisalsonotanissue,asourserviceautomaticallytrackserror
