Comparative assets at the economic, political, legal,

and socio-cultural levels

• Political stability and social peace which reduce uncertainties and country-risk in the business environment;

• Macro-economic stability backed up by a 4.5 per cent GDP growth, controlled inflation around 3 per cent, adjusted public finance and a stock exchange,

• Debt ratio controlled at less than 17 per cent of GDP;

• active governance, for good practices and behaviours thanks to the creation of a special crime tribunal which rules on cases of embezzlement of public funds

• A market of close to 21 million consumers which can be extended to the 300 million consumers of the Economic Community of Central African States, as well as Nigeria

• The Law of 18 April 2013 laying down private investment incentives in the Republic of Cameroon is more than an asset.

• Many other measures taken by the government to promote private investment

how does Cameroon potential look like? (1)

• A rich and diversified agricultural potential owing to the variety of climates and soils. Agriculture accounts for 27 per cent of Cameroon’s GDP and 21 per cent of exports; Arable land accounts for nearly 85 per cent of the overall surface area of the country, but only 20 per cent is currently exploited.

• Agricultural production ranges from food crops to cash crops: banana, cotton, cocoa (4th largest producer), coffee, tea, sugar cane, natural rubber, cereals, fruits and vegetables, tubers, etc.

• animal husbandry is highly developed and is located at the crossroads of Nigerian markets and part of CEMAC.

• Forestry, with one of the largest forest block in the Congo basin. Forests cover 40 per cent of the national territory, representing 22.5 million hectares with 17 millions exploitable.

how does Cameroon potential look like? (2)

• Whether large-scale or small-scale, fishing presents very bright prospects thanks to the 360 km of maritime coasts;

• Rich wildlife and flora, a diversified and original culture conducive to the development of the tourism industry

• variety of mineral resources most of which are unexploited. – Iron ore reserves are estimated at close to 550 million tons (4th

largest reserve in the world and 2nd largest in Africa).

– Bauxite reserves more than one billion tons with aluminium content of at least 40 per cent (5th or 6th largest reserve of this mineral resource in the world).

– Cobalt and nickel reserves : more than 52 million tons (they are among the largest deposits in the world).

– Rutile reserves : close to 3 million tons. Cameroon has the second largest deposit after Sierra Leone;

how does Cameroon potential look like? (3)

• Oil exploitation with the exploration of new deposits quite in progress,

• Gas reserves estimated at more than 116 billion cubic meters. A reserves of 105 billion cubic mete discovered but not yet exploited on the country’s coast ;

• In terms of energy, Cameroon has the second largest hydroelectric potential in Africa thanks to its valuable hydraulic system. The current production is estimated at 4,256 GWH.

• Projects for the construction of new hydroelectric dams and development of new forms of energy are onn the way.

km of rural roads each year with the estimate

cost of 200 billion per annum.

gobo to Kousseri
