First ServeThis will be the 43rd match against the Lady Buffs of lead the series 40-2. The last time the Aggies defeated West Texas A&M was in the 1998 Lone Star Conference Tournament Champion-ship held in the Aggie Gym.

The Zias snapped an Aggie eight match winning streak beating CU earlier this season 2-3 at Eastern new Mexico. Despite the win this season for ENMU, Cameron leads the all-time series 18-15.

Last Time OutWith a good all around effort, the Cameron University Volleyball team swept the Southeastern Oklahoma State Storm on Dig for a Cure Night at Aggie Gym.

CU started the match strong with two five point rallies in set one to put them ahead for the whole set and give them the win 25-18. They then followed with a back and forth set two up until a 13-13 tie when CU went on a 10-3 run that would put them well ahead 22-16. After a bit of a rally by Southeastern, Cameron finished it off for a 25-21.

The third set started off slow for the Aggies as they fell behind 1-6 to the storm, but a CU 12-3 run put them up 13-9. After two Southeastern points, Cameron had another rally to put them up 17-11. The set then went back and forth until the Aggies were able to put it away 25-23.

Cameron’s freshman tandem of Shan-non Dulaney and Kathryn Evans led the way offensively with 14 kills each. Evans did was pretty efficient on the night with a .375 attack percentage on 32 attacks. Rebecca Green added to the Aggie attack with 10 kills and Annelise Carpenter added nine kills of her own. They were all assisted by the experienced setter, Jenna Risoli, who had another double double with 42 assists and 12 digs. Julisa Ocasio

had another impressive defensive night with 31 digs, getting her closer to 1,000 in her career at CU. Risoli, Ocasio, Mariah Westlake (16 digs), and the rest of the Aggies combined for 91 digs on the night.

Chasing 3,000Jenna Risoli is currently sitting at 2862 career assists in 2+ seasons at Cameron. In the 2012 season, Risoli has 1049 assists averaging 9.99 per set. In the remaining seven matches left she would need to average at least 35 assists in the remaining four matches to break 3,000 this season.

NationallyPrior to Tuesday’s match with West Texas A&M, Cameron is 29th in the nation with 17.44 digs. Individually, Jenna Risoli is 52nd in the nation in assists per set with 9.76 and Kathryn Evans is 45th in the nation in kills per set at 3.64.

Digging for the Record BooksDespite missing the first month of the season Julisa Ocasio is averag-ing 6.39 digs per set and is on pace to break CU’s all time mark in both career and Season categories.

Former Aggie, Jenny Head is the pres-ent leader. She averaged 5.469 digs per set in the 2004 season and in her career averaged 5.085. Ocasio’s present career average is at 5.593.

Nationally, and in the LSC Ocasio is not yet eligible in rankings. She needs to play in 66.7% of the sets played. Presently, Ocasio is at 61.9%, if she was eligible today Ocasio would be leading the LSC in Digs per set and would be fifth nationally in the same category.

Ocasio’s all-time digs count is at 991 and she would need to average 2.5 digs in the remaining four matches to break 1,000 digs at Cameron.

The 2011 season was head coach Douglas Tabbert’s first season at Cameron University. Tabbert took a team picked 11th in the confer-ence preseason polls to a their

first Lone Star Conference Tournament birth in three years as the sixth seed. Tabbert led CU to a 15-15 overall record and 9-11 Lone Star mark. This was a stark improvement over the team’s 9-18 overall record and 4-10 league mark the year before his ar-rival.

Tabbert comes to Cameron after spending the past four years at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he held the position of Assistant Head Coach under 12th-year Head Coach Rick Squiers. Dur-ing his four years at UNK, the Lopers had an overall record of 129-17 and a conference record of 71-4 including four regular season con-ference championships, two conference tournament championships, four NCAA tournament appearances, and final national rankings of No. 19, No. 6, No. 12 and No. 5. The Perry, Kansas native also coached 17 all-con-ference and 12 all-academic conference players, 10 all-region players, and seven all-Americans. Tabbert is also no stranger to the head coach position. Prior to heading to Kearney, Tabbert led the volleyball pro-gram at NAIA South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, S.D., for four seasons. In 2001 and 2002, he was head coach at Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., with his first head coaching job coming at NCAA Divi-sion III Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C. Tabbert also has been a graduate assistant volleyball and soft-ball coach at NCAA Division III Bluffton College (Ohio). He holds a B.S. degree in Psychology and Business Administra-tion from Baker University (Kans.) and a Master’s degree in Develop-ment Kinesiology from Bowling Green State U. (Ohio).

Evans Named LSC Offensive Player of the Week Cameron University earns its first individual award of the season as freshman Kathryn Evans was recog-nized by the Lone Star Conference as an Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 2.

Evans, a native of Pearland, Texas, broke her career high in kills twice this past week. The first was at East-ern New Mexico on Sept. 25 where she had 22 kills.

To out-do herself she came back on Saturday Sept. 29 to record a now career high of 24 kills against St. Mary’s (TX). This last week Evans has had a total of 68 kills while averag-ing four kills a set on a .198 hitting percentage in four games for the Aggies.

Head coach Doug Tabbert was pleased with the week his young hit-ter had and how she has improved as the season develops.“She did a good job of taking care of the ball and was pretty consistent.

She took some big swings, minimized her errors, and put a good set of numbers together,” said Tabbert. “She is learning to limit her errors, still makes some unforced ones once in a while, but she is learning when she has a chance to make a big swing and when she needs to hold back a little bit and keep the ball in play. That is a part of her game that has really developed.”

Seeking the PostseasonAfter qualifying for the Lone Star Conference Tournament in the 2011 season, Cameron is seeking another appearance. The last time Cameron reached the LSC Tournament was in 2006-07. From 1997 through 2004 the aggies were a fixture at the tourna-ment appearing eight years in a row.
