Three elements contribute significantly to workforce ES programming: Essential Skills Profiles; Employer Input and Authentic Workplace Materials. Those same elements contributed to the development of CAMERA. 

CAMERA is a standardized assessment system designed to be used in workforce ES programming.

Tailor the message according to background knowledge of participants. May want to mention:

•Research project to develop occupational analyses available for many jobs in Canada•Profiles that result from research are available on HRSDC’s web site •Each occupational profile catalogues task examples, organized by the nine ES•Each example is rated using an internationally recognized scale, 1 being the lowest level of complexity to 4 or 5 being the highest level of complexity•Level 3 is considered the level at which individuals are able to manage most work and everyday life demands.•ES are considered transferable skills•Many other educational products have come out of this research. •Profiles provide a way to understand job requirements, while focusing on the transferability of skills

Placement test is used just to find out what level a learners skills are at – a locator test, quick to administer, doesn’t provide detailed diagnostic information

The Stage 1, 2, and 3 tests are used to gather detailed information about learners abilities in order to gear instruction to their needs.

The tasks in CAMERA mirror the kind of tasks workers do in a variety of workplace settings.The three Stage assessments in CAMERA test at ES levels 1, 2 and 3 – POINT OUT the ES ratings of tasks for each test, as illustrated in the tableES level 3 is a very strong foundation for many jobs in the Canadian workforce, although learners may well move on to employment at any of the three Stages.

Stage 1 assessment is administered one‐to‐one. In the early stages of the assessment, learners can respond to questions orally, rather than having to write their responses. This means you can gather information about individuals’ early literacy skills development.
