Why set lower speed limits?

Numerous studies demonstrate that lower

speeds are safer Higher speeds cause more accidents, and more

severe injuries from accidents

At 20 mph there is a 2.5% chance of beingfatally injured, compared to a 20% chance at 30

mph

20 mph zones and limits were brought in by theGovernment in 1992 to improve road safety
