The generous commitment of our donors provides a powerful experience for our entire community – our campers, their caregivers, and our staff. Your support provides 426 of our community’s neediest children with an inspiring and nurturing summer experience. They are able to discover new interests and skills, gain confidence, and experience success all while enjoying simply being a kid. Your support provides families with the security of knowing their children are spending their day in a safe, positive way. For some of the families we work with, this is the first time they have experienced a community that welcomes and celebrates their child. Your support provides an inspiring environment for our camp staff, many of whom are making a career out of working with youth. They are able to see, on a daily basis, how the work they do is effecting positive change. When you contribute to Cambridge Camping you are doing much more than sending children to camp who would otherwise be unable to attend. You are investing in the lives of these children, in their growth, in their potential as responsible young adults and members of the communities where they live. Dear Friends,

Inside this year’s “Letters from Camp,” you’ll find testimony from the many people whose lives are enriched by your support and the work of Cambridge Camping.

Thank you,

Neil Olken Amy SteinPresident, Board of Directors Executive Director

The mission of Cambridge Camping is to provide meaningful experiences to under-served children in supportive and inclusive camp communities through enriching and inspired programs.

December 2013

2013Cambridge Adventure Day Camp“CADC shows campers that there are people who care about them outside of their homes, and it’s a safe, fun environment that they can look forward to every year.”

“CADC gave me the opportunity to give back to the city and community that had such a profound impact on my life.”

“CADC helped me grow, stretch, and learn. It has equipped me with the tools necessary to pursue a career with kids. I am thankful to work with talented people who encourage me to be better everyday.”

“CADC brought me into one of the most dedicated and caring communities I have ever been a part of.”

Daybreak Day Camp“I am a parent of three children who have attended Daybreak Day Camp. It’s not a place that just exists for the summer, it’s so much deeper than that”

“It is such a relief as a parent to know that [our daughter] spent five weeks thriving. The change at night was astonishing. Her stress level was so incredibly reduced, she was her best, wonderful self. You gave us such an incredible gift these past five weeks. I think we will all be sobbing when camp ends.”

“At Daybreak, our daughter formed meaningful bonds with other children and counselors, participated in group and individual activities and began to internalize messages about respect and self-regulation. In short, she has been able to achieve in only a few weeks what she was unable to in her camp last summer, and in the intervening school year.”

CADC Nature Camp at Farrington is an exciting 1-week nature day camp offered in collaboration with Farrington Nature Linc, a 75 acre farm and nature facility in Lincoln.Daybreak Day Camp is a supportive, therapeutic camp for children with emotional and behavioral special needs, ages 5-12, from Cambridge and Somerville. The camper to staff ratio is 2:1. The camp is 5-weeks long and provides 5 special events during the school year.
