Full of audience participation this show travels at a thousand smiles an hour so hold on tight!

The King and I, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s 1951 Broadway musical hit, is based on Margaret Landon’s book Anna and the King of Siam. An English widow, Anna Leonowens, comes to Siam in the 1860s to tutor the many wives and children of the country’s progressive king. Through Anna, the King learns the customs and responsibilities of “modern” western civilization; Anna meanwhile comes to realise how important it is for an Oriental ruler to maintain his pride and to uphold the traditions of his people.

Local author Murray Rowlands will draw on his research for his book Aldershot in the Great War to be published by Pen and Sword later in the year to describe the upheaval in people’s lives caused by WW1.
