Curriculum

Calvin Christian teaches all students from a Christian perspective. This begins with the biblical truth that “all things belong to God”. In developing and preparing the curriculum to be taught, the Calvin Christian teacher’s task is to help expose God’s fingerprint in all things – Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, the Sciences, etc. Sharing about who God is and that he is the “God of all things” does not only happen in a Bible class; it is to be reflected in all that is done within the school day. To accomplish this, teachers actively implement Teaching for Transformation as a curricular framework. This allows Calvin Christian teachers a significant level of freedom in the development of a curricular unit from a Christian perspective. More information about Teaching for Transformation can be found at http://pcce.tftshare.ca/.

Service Learning

Calvin Christian Schools asks students to live out their lives as followers of Christ, both within their local community and in the world. For that reason, we provide opportunities for our students to develop servant leadership, to act with compassion and justice in a world that God loves, and to demonstrate a growing faith in God who enables us to do what we did not think we could do. From Grade 1 students singing in a local personal care home to our Grade 11 Mexico Ministry Trip and the Grade 12 Inner City Experience, service learning provides students with practical opportunities to engage with and experience God in a unique way. By way of these experiences, the faith of our students is challenged, their love for others grows, their eyes are opened to the work of God in others, and they learn to partner and share their own personal gifts with those whom they meet.

Core Values

We pursue excellence in our learning, teaching and living out God’s truth.

We continue to grow in our faith through the study of God’s Word. We commit to discerning and engaging culture with the hope of

Christ’s redemption. We actively pursue stewardship of our time, resources and

abilities. We recognize and affirm each other in our uniqueness. We provide a variety of opportunities for all to discover and

develop their gifts and talents. We respect each other, relating to each other with love, integrity

and openness. We seek to foster servanthood and leadership development for

our students and as a community. We commit to providing opportunities for parents to be involved

in the education of their children both in and outside of the classroom.

We encourage creativity. We celebrate!

Governance & Leadership

Calvin Christian Schools is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the parent body. The Board of Directors is responsible for policy-making and governance of the school and delegates the implementation of these policies to the Head of School. The Head of School provides leadership and supervision for the operation of Calvin Christian Schools and assigns responsibility for the day-to-day operations of each campus to a campus principal. The Head of School reports directly to the Calvin Christian Schools Board of Directors and serves as an ex-officio member of the Board. All members of the two-campus administrative team report to the Head of School.

Fine Arts and Athletics

The Fine Arts and Athletic Programs at Calvin Christian Schools strive to glorify God and be developmentally appropriate. They are an avenue for students to develop Christian character and display artistic and athletic gifts given by God.

Regardless of grade level, participation in these programs helps shape Christian character. This includes developing a positive self-image, fostering respect and enhancing ownership of effort and attitude (hard work, self control). Artists and athletes build a sense of community by encouraging each other and working together towards common goals. They utilize leadership skills as they demonstrate God given artistic and athletic gifts and talents.
