Congregational Prayers for Moravian Worship 2. God’s Loving Kindness

Blessed be the Lord, for he has shown me his marvelous loving-kindness.

I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my

mouth.

T. HOLY LORD (119 A)

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord!

He with you deals bounteously.

Highly favored church of Jesus,

he chose you through mercy free

to show forth his matchless praises

and rich fruit, blessed for the Master’s use,

to produce, to produce.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised.

There is no end to his greatness.

Yet we who are called to be God’s people have fallen short of God’s glory,

and have wandered from the paths which God has set before us. Therefore

let us confess our sins, trusting in God’s mercy.

SILENT CONFESSION

Hear what the Lord says: I am the God who forgives your sins, and I do this

because of who I am. I will not hold your sins against you. Go, and sin no

more.

Having received God’s gracious word of forgiveness, in the peace of God let

us profess our faith.

I believe in God the Father, who wills our salvation.

I believe in God the Son, who offered himself that our sins

might be forgiven.

I believe in God the Holy Spirit, who gives us spiritual

gifts that we may live our lives in Christ.

Because of what God has done for us, we respond in faith,

and love, and hope.

(over)

Page 6: Calvary Moravian Churchcalvarymoravian.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Bulletin...Calvary Moravian Church TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST THE CONSECRATION OF MY GIFTS AND TIME

(Prayers of thanksgiving and intercessions for church, nation,

and world, the afflicted, and the coming of God’s kingdom

are offered. These prayers close with the following:)

Lord God, Father, hear us as we pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done on earth,

as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those

who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory,

forever and ever. Amen.

Lord God, Son, the Savior of the world,

Be gracious unto us.

Lord God, Holy Spirit,

Abide with us forever. Amen.

T. BERTHELSDORF (141 A)

Hear then, dear Lord Jesus,

hear our earnest prayer,

grant your loving mercy,

keep us in your care.

All that is displeasing

unto you, forgive;

more to your name’s glory

may we henceforth live.

ANNOUNCEMENTS The flowers in the sanctuary are given to the glory of God and in loving

memory of Dot and Powell Watts by their sons, Tom and Rich Watts.

Appreciation is expressed to Mr. Stephen Baker for bringing us the

offertory invitation this morning and to Mr. Paul Marshall for serving as our

Lay Reader today.

Our 2018 Discipleship Emphasis continues today! From now through

November 18, we’re exploring together what it means to live what the Bible

calls the Consecrated Life—a life set apart, a life given to God which St.

Paul describes as “a living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable to God!” Each

Sunday, a specific theme is being utilized. This morning’s theme is: The

Consecration of My Gifts and Talents. We hope you will make a special

effort to join us each Sunday through November 18 as we learn what it

means to have our whole lives, with all our talent, time, and treasure,

dedicated to God. On November 18, we will have Discipleship Dedication

Sunday as well as our Thanksgiving Lovefeast. Each member will have an

opportunity to present their financial commitments for 2019. Every family

has been mailed a commitment packet for 2019. If you need additional

commitment materials, please notify the church office.

God’s Commandments

In Mark 12:28-34, a teacher of the law asked Jesus a question, “Of all the

commandments, which is the most important?” Jesus answered, “Love the

Lord your God” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

The most important thing that a person can do is to love God with all their

being. We know this is possible only by inviting Jesus Christ into our hearts

as Lord and Savior. When God is first in our lives, that changes the way we

live. With God’s love in our hearts and God leading our lives, we have the

capacity to love others in a way that is pleasing to God.

Jesus states there is no commandment greater than these. Our Lord also said,

“All the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matthew

22:40). The Ten Commandments are connected to these. The first four are

about loving God. We are not to have any other God. We are not to make a

false idol. We are not to curse God’s name. We are to worship him. That is

loving God.

The last six commandments relate to loving others. We are to respect our

parents. From this we should have respect for authority and for others. We

are to have respect for moral purity, respect for others’ property and rights

by not stealing. We are to respect what is true by not lying and slandering

others. We are to respect what God has provided and not covet what others

possess. All this has to do with our relationship with others.

The first half has to do with our relationship with God and the second half

with our relationship with one another. As Jesus stated, these two

commandments simply summarize the whole law.

We can be the hands of our Lord when we love God with all our being and

treat others the way we want to be treated.

Minutes from the Winter Church Council

March 4, 2018

The Right Reverend Lane Sapp welcomed everyone to the meeting

and called the meeting to order. Pastor Sapp opened the meeting with

prayer.

Minutes from the Fall Church Council were reviewed. Matt Nance

made a motion to accept the minutes and Brooks Lott seconded the

motion. The motion carried.

Pastor Sapp read the Joint Board Report and the Elders Report. Pastor

Sapp expressed appreciation to Paul Knouse, Richard Davis and Marc

DeCoste for all their work for the church.

Jan Trivette read the Trustees Report. Some questions were discussed.

John Weaver gave an update on the ceiling repairs and answered any

questions. It was noted the insurance company would pay for the

repairs.

Bill Seippel read and discussed the 2017 budget. It was noted that if

giving remains the same as 2017 for 2018 and expenditures remain as

budgeted, we should have a surplus at the end of 2018.

Pastor Sapp expressed appreciation to Bill Seippel for all his work as

Treasurer.

There being no further business to come before the council, Matt

Nance made a motion to adjourn and Adam Pristas seconded the

motion. The meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted,

Carl McKnight
