Health Ministry NotesAs we look forwards to Thanksgiving, we are humbled by the bountiful harvest and

many blessings the Lord provides. We are especially thankful for the gift of our days. Thismonth I would like to share some thoughts on Growing Older in God’s Grace.

Whether we live a long or short life, all of our daysare in the Lord’s hands. At times, it is very hard tounderstand why some die at a young age, while others livefor years with difficult health problems. Our comfort isthat the circumstances and length of our lives is not anindication of God’s love for us. He can make somethinggood out of our most difficult problems.

There are several things we can do to improve thequality of our lives as we age and grow older in God’sgrace.

1st – remember that all of our days are a gift from God.2nd – respect the life God has blessed us with; this can include doing things to protect

our physical, emotional, and spiritual health.3rd – accept that life means change, except for the unchanging love of God, everything

else will change over time. If we can develop a flexible and positive attitude, ouradjustment may be easier.

4th – value the past and learn from it. Our past experiences are rich resources thatyounger people can’t obtain. By taking our past with us into the future, we createa more meaningful future.

5th –turn to our faithful God for help. The same God, who gave us life and guided usin our youth, is present to embrace us during difficult times, and gently bring usto Himself.

“May God support us all the day long, till the shadows lengthen, and the eveningcomes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done! Thenin his mercy may He give us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at last” (John HenryNewman)

On the fourth Saturday of each month, Linda Wozniak, RD, LDN is available fornutrition counseling, as is an RN for blood pressure screening. In addition, a nurse is availablefor blood pressure screening on the second Sunday after services. If there is anything I can doto assist you, please call me.

Calvary’s Garden ProjectEarlier this year, a professional landscape design was created for the gardens around the

church and Old Well Hall, paid for by a generous donation from a parishioner. The drawingsare on display in the Old Well Hall. This spring, the Landscape Committee began plantingthe gardens. In order to fund the rest of the project, the Landscape Committee is offering parishioners and friends the opportunity to “purchase” plants inthe gardens in memory of, in thanksgiving for, or in honor of aloved one. Please consider a donation to help us continueplanting our gardens and beautifying our church. We want ourgrounds to speak of love and welcome. Questions? Talk to BethLifka, Leo Bjorlie or Linda Mayhew.

Coffee Hour Hosts Always NeededCoffee Hour is a great time to say hello to

others and grab a bite to eat with friends and soon-to-be friends. This is animportant way to welcome newcomers and strengthen ties with otherparishioners. Fancy food is not required, and the Weekend Sexton will helpwith set-up and coffee. Please sign up this Sunday to host coffee hour in theOld Well Hall. Everyone will be glad you did.

Thank you for the food we eat, Thank you for the world so sweet, Thank you for the birds that sing,

Thank you God for everything.

(Continued)

Since this is the season for thanks, it’s time to give our thanks to all the folk who makethe Food Pantry successful. We give thanks for our Board of Directors, all the many Saturdayvolunteers, and those who sort, pack and shelve all the donations. We mustn’t forget thosewho give their time to pick up donated food, those who serve as shoppers on Saturdays andalso those who help clients load their cars and keep order.

There are so many others to numerous to name who give money and food donations, including our vendors.

We also should give thanks for the grant writers and non-profits who award grantsbased on what our grant writers submit.

We are so fortunate to have all these wonderful people and organizations who give theirtime and talents to serve those in our community who need our help so desperately. Pleasepray this prayer of thanksgiving from the Book of Common Prayer as part of yourthanksgiving for the Food Pantry clients.

We give you thanks, most gracious God, for the beauty of the earth and sky and sea; for the richness of mountains,

plains and rivers, for the songs of birds and the loveliness of flowers.

We praise you for these good gifts and pray that we may safeguard them for our posterity.

Grant that we may continue to grow in our grateful enjoyment of your abundant creation ,

to the honor and glory of your Name, now and forever. Amen.
