Calls for Research Papers to be presented at the 1986 AMERICAN SCHOOL HEALTH ASSOCIATION CONVENTION October 8-11 Raddison Hotel, Denver, Colorado The ASHA Research Council invites researchers from across the nation to submit papers to be considered for presentation at the 60th American School Health Association Annual Convention, Oct. 8-11, 1986, in Denver. The papers should describe research about some aspect of the school health program including school health services, school health education, and the effects of the school environment on health. Analysis of the research data should be completed before the paper is presented. If the author@)agrees to present an accepted paper or poster session, the paper must be presented at the Convention by an investigator integral to the research; the paper must not have been presented or published previously. Submission of papers is open to all research scientists, irrespective of their membership in ASHA or the Research Council. Applications must be received no later than April 1, 1986. Using a photocpy of the form on the reverse side, each application shall include the title of the paper (as it is to be listed in the program), the authors of the paper, their appropriate degrees, institutional affiliations, and institutional addresses. Following this information, a 5006word abstract of the paper to be presented should be typed in the space provided that describes 1) the purpose of the investigation, 2) its significance to the school health program, 3) the procedures employed in the investigation (including as a description of the sample, instrumentation, and statistical techniques employed), 4) principal findings, and 5) conclusions derived from the findings. These abstracts will be reviewed by a committee of school health research scientists, and all applicants simultaneously will be notified about the acceptance or rejection of their abstracts on or before May 31, 1986. To enable such notification, all applications must be accompanied by a stamped, self-addressed reply envelope. In addition to the regular sessions, the Research Council has planned to sponsor three special sessions respectively to address school health services research, research conducted by student investigators, and research methods and research issues particularly important for school health programs. In addition, the peer review committee will select several papers that appropriately might be presented at a special poster session. Applicants are encouraged to submit papers for these four special sessions and to indicate in their applications whether they are submitting a paper for the regular sessions or for one of the special sessions identified above. All program participants are required to be registered for the Convention. All persons making contributed papers/presentations who do not wish to register for the entire Convention may register for one day only.
