VSO needs engineers, architects, urban planners and textile technicians:

Biomedical engineering You’ll have an MSc or PhD in biomedical engineering, bioinstrumentation, medical imaging or in another relevant field. You’ll have experience of teaching and ideally professional industrial experience and research skills. Chemical engineering You’ll have an MSc or PhD in chemical engineering or a relevant field and experience of teaching. Ideally you’ll also have professional industrial experience. Electrical engineering You’ll have an MSc or PhD in electrical engineering or a relevant subject and experience of teaching in higher education. Ideally you’ll have research skills and professional industrial experience.

Industrial engineering With an MSc or PhD in industrial engineering or another relevant field, you’ll have experience of teaching and preferably in a higher education institute. Ideally you’ll also have professional industrial experience and research skills. Civil/structural/water/hydraulics engineering You’ll have an MSc in a relevant field and experience of teaching in a higher education context. Industrial professional experience would be a bonus. Computer Science You’ll have an MSc in computer or software engineering or another relevant field and experience of teaching. Ideally you’ll also have some professional industrial experience.

Visiting Professor in urban design You’ll have a post graduate degree in urban design and teaching experience. You’ll also have experience of working on research projects and ideally will have experience of working in urban design. Visiting Professor in structural design You’ll have a post grad degree in structural engineering (or a similar field) as well as experience of teaching. Visiting Professor in landscape design You’ll have a post grad in landscape design or environmental planning or a related field, as well as experience of teaching.

Architecture and urban planning You’ll have a PhD or MSc in urban, regional or rural planning or a related field, as well as experience of teaching in a higher education institute. Textile technology engineering You’ll have a masters or equivalent qualification in textile technology and experience of teaching or training. Road transport engineering You’ll have an MSc or PhD in a relevant subject, with experience of teaching in a higher education institution. Ideally you’ll also have professional experience.

And the rest… These are voluntary placements and we’ll ask you to commit to 12-24 months in order to make a sustainable change and impact to development. In return VSO makes sure our volunteers are supported and our volunteer financial package includes a local living allowance, return flights, accommodation, medical insurance, visas and work permits.
