We love the summer months at Callendar House! It’s our chance to get outside (maybe even without a jumper!) and enjoy the stunning parkland that surrounds the House. And this summer is all about Adventures for us…

If you enjoyed yourself at Mr Bloom and all the accompanying activities last year you’re going to love what we have in store. For one weekend in May (17-18) Callendar Park and House will be taken over by Your Adventure Starts Here! a free event for the whole family jam-packed with activities for all. In celebration of the Festival of Museums, Scotland’s Nature Festival, and the opening of the John Muir Way, this two-day event kicks off a summer of ‘adventure’, and will feature lots of FREE activities from partners including: British Dragonfly Society, RSPB, John Muir Way, Forestry Commission, and many, many more!

To coincide with this event we’re also launching our Callendar House and Park Activity Backpacks. These backpacks for 5-12 year olds are free to use (£5 deposit), and lead kids on activities and exploration through the House and Park, with various themes, providing self-led fun.

We’re also very excited to welcome Marion Deuchars to the Park Gallery with her exhibition Let’s Make ART. Far from being a traditional exhibition it’s driven by Marion’s ethos that anyone can make art, and at the centre of it, alongside her sketchbooks and process, are workstations and activity sheets for everyone to participate in making ART! She will also be leading two free family workshops where she will have kids and adults getting messy and creative.

And for those looking for something to do with the kids this school holiday we have a range of FREE activities both indoors and out that will inspire and entertain young ones, from baking to art, crafts and vegetable creature creation.

Make sure to visit our website for details of all events across the Trust and follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the most up-to-date news and offers.

We’re ready to have an adventure, are you? Join us for a weekend jam-packed with FREE activities for all the family both indoors and outdoors, come sunscreen or welly boot weather in celebration of the Festival of Museums, Scotland’s Nature Festival, and the opening of the John Muir Way.

If you enjoyed Mr Bloom last year, you’ll love this fun-filled weekend where kids and their grown-ups can explore, discover, and play through exciting and engaging activities from a wide range of partners from the British Dragonfly Society to the RSPB, the Forestry Commission to Zero Waste Scotland, and Scottish Badgers to Youth Scotland.

Packed with arts, crafts, competitions, learning, exploration, making, and adventuring, kids will love what we have in store.

And for adults, you don’t need a wee one to come along and join in; we’ll also be running upcycling and crafting workshops on the Saturday, and all the free events are suitable for big kids at heart too!

MARION DEUCHARS : LET’S MAKE ART 3 MAY 2014 – 20 JULY 2014

As part of Homecoming 2014, Let’s Make ART will be Marion Deuchars first exhibition in her home town. Marion is an internationally acclaimed, award winning illustrator who was born in Grangemouth, and now lives with her husband and two sons in North London. Her clients are varied: from Penguin Books to Formula One, The Guardian, and New York Magazine to Jamie Oliver. She is the author of the bestselling books 'Let’s Make Some Great ART' and 'Let’s Make Some Great Fingerprint ART' (Laurence King Publishing) and is currently working on a new art book for children.

Part of the exhibition will show her working process through sketchbooks, notes, and films, but the centrepiece of the show are specially designed work tables where everyone of all ages can get involved by making their own artwork from printed activity sheets.

Come along and get involved with a whole range of ART activities, including: making your own artwork to be hung within the exhibition; art activity sheets; draw the Mona Lisa’s smile; fingerprinting, stencilling, stamping and colouring; and interactive drawing via specially designed web apps. www.letsmakesomegreatart.com

"My exhibition at the Park Gallery will be a

chance to see some of my working method and

will also allow children and adults to get

involved in the creative process themselves.

Much of the exhibition will be interactive, but

not in the digital sense! So roll up your sleeves

and come and get your hands messy. Let’s

get drawing, painting, sticking and cutting.

Let’s Make Art!"Marion Deuchars
