Callahan Soccer Club Program Overview & Objectives CSC Mission Callahan Soccer Club (CSC) exists to provide a family friendly environment where kids of Nassau County have a place to play and learn the great game of soccer.

CSC Believes in: • Player Development – Our goal is to create a fun and challenging environment where players have the opportunity to learn and develop their soccer skill set. • Having fun – The number one reason to play soccer is to have fun. To promote fun we will create a positive environment that encourages equal participation and helps players perform to the best of their ability. • Safety first – We believe it is important to maintain a safe and age appropriate environment by having rules and policies in place that protect our players.

Player Development & Coaching Priorities • Establish clear and age appropriate player development objectives that help our coaches, players and parents know what we are working together to accomplish. • Establish age appropriate coaching priorities and focus areas in the four elements of the game (technical, tactical, psychological, and physical). • Ensure consistency among our club and soccer community so that our teaching is streamlined and helps players perform at the next level. • Develop coaches that are confident and prepared to teach and meet player development

objectives.

CSC Player Development Objectives

Callahan Soccer Club uses the building block approach to meet player development objectives. Players follow an initial learning path that is focused on technique and skill development, and as competency increases tactical elements are introduced. Within each building block there are development objectives and drills that are designed to focus on the necessary skill set. Proficiency within each block is important to ensure that the player has learned the required skills to support their development at the next stage of the curriculum. As a player progresses through the system they will continue to work on elements of preceding stages to ensure they are consistently and simultaneously challenged on both fundamental and advanced levels.

Practice Session Format

All CSC practice sessions follow a deliberate format; the following table provides an overview of

how a typical practice should be structured.





PLAYER DEVELOPMENT CONTINUUM MODEL

Player Development Continuum: Development occurs on a continuum where development is more

important than the chronological age of the player. Developmental differences between players of

the same age are common place and can correlate to +/- 2 years of chronological age. Thus, in a

mixed ability group of 10-year-old players, it is feasible to have players performing at a level of an

average 8-year-old and an average 12-year-old - a 4-year development range.
