• The center houses an average of 25 teens.• The population consists of males and females, 12-17 years

of age.• Students may stay at the center from 1 day to 18 months.• Almost all youth residents are below reading level.

• Activities conducted over 6 week period• Some different students each program• Some activities done with teachers alone• Students were NOT required to participate• Guards in rooms at all times

• Materials were inspected and altered for safety• ONLY paperbacks/ NO headphones• Males and females always separated

• Dog perceptions varied• Some read book on their own
