RULES

TEDxLuiss is an independently organized event by a group of young university students, in collaboration with “Luiss Guido Carli” university, and under a free license granted by TED.The event, which will be held in Rome on March 23th, 2019, aims to bring together great ideas that are worth spreading to the local community around the globe.With this spirit in mind, this call was created to select a single speaker for the upcoming 2019 edition to give the stage to an Italian excellency which is engaged in changing the world with an Italian “Upside Down” idea.

THEME

The theme of the event is “Upside Down”, namely looking at the world from a different point of view. Flipping our view to create new solutions, new models to rediscover ourselves and what surrounds us, eradicating conventions and changing everyday perspectives.We have defined it with the following statements:

Upend the way people interact with each other, to see the world through a different lens.Make them climb the peak to be enchanted with the valley.Convention defines the ordinary.Let yourself fly. Change things. You don’t always have to be grounded.You can explore a new dimension, a new reality.Be inspired to change your perspective.Come see the new upside-down world.

We are looking for a speaker which can represent the Italian spirit of Upside Down through the TEDx format.

HOW TO APPLY

This call is open to people working or studying in Italy. Both the application and the video shall be completed in English. Applicants who do not meet the mentioned requirements will not be taken into consideration and thus be excluded.

STEPS AND TIMELINE

The contest will be opened from 00:00 of the 9th of February to the 23:59 of 24th of February. Eligible candidates have to send a video of maximum 5-minutes about their “Upside Down” idea, using WeTransfer, to contest@tedxluiss.it. 5 finalists will be selected to hold their five minute speech at the Milano Luiss Hub on they will be helped, if required, by the Speakers Curator for the individual preparation of the Talk. A selected jury will evaluate each Talk and declare who will become a speaker at TEDxLuiss.

Phase One:

Compile a quick form on www.tedxluiss.it and send the video of your 5-minutes Talk to contest@tedxluiss.it. The talk must be in English.The deadline is February 24th, 2019 at 23:59.

Phase Two:

Check your email: the jury will decide within a couple of days. If you are selected, you will receive an invitation to the final stage of the contest, which will take place at the Milano Luiss Hub on the 8th of March.

Phase Three:

Come to Milan on March 8th, 2019, to present your speech live in front a jury and share your idea worth spreading! You will have a maximum time of 5-minutes for your speech.

Phase Four:

If you are the winner, you will have the opportunity to join us, as our next speaker at TEDxLuiss on the 23rd March 2019. We will cover all the expenses necessary tohost you on our stage, including travel and accommodation.

JURY AND SELECTION CRITERIA

The Jury will be composed by the Speakers Curator, sector experts and

public speaking experts. Every talk will be selected following the ensuing criteria:

• Linking the “Upside Down” theme with an Italian excellency idea: 50 % • Ability to speak about your idea and clarity in exposing it: 30% • Mastery of the idea presented and emotional involvement: 10% • English ability: 10%

OBLIGATIONS

The organizing team is not responsible for any damages caused by greater forces, including strikes, fires, floods, measures by authorities, or unforeseeable circumstances attributable to third parties directly or indirectly.Candidates who, according to the unquestionable judgment of the Jury or the subjects appointed by them, have been registered fraudulently or in violation or circumvention of this regulation, may be expelled from the procedures for participation in the call for speaker.Participation at the TEDxLuiss event implies full acceptance of this regulation by the speaker candidates.

The organizing team also reserves the right to carry out the necessary checks to ascertain their regularity of the participation as well as the correctness of the data indicated by the candidate speaker. The data collection of the speaker candidates will take place in compliance with the legislative decree n. 196/03 (Code of Privacy). This call does not constitute a prize competition pursuant to art. 6.1 (a) of the D.P.R. 26 October 2001, n.430 and will be accessible on the website www.tedxluiss.it.
