ENVIRONMENT, ENERGY & SUSTAINABILITY SYMPOSIUM & EXHIBITION E2S2 provides an opportunity to share ideas on how to improve energy, environmental and sustainability management throughout DoD, the Services and other federal agencies. This year we are inviting administration senior leaders from the White House, DoD, DoE, EPA and the Services to present, in the plenary session, their organizations’ goals for the next three years. The Services will emphasize their leadership initiatives and program and budget changes in order to provide attendees with policy updates and technical training. As you think about topics for technical session presentations, please make the effort to fit them into the general tracks that are laid out in this call for papers. The E2S2 planning committee has made an effort to tailor the tracks based on comments from our 2009 conference.

For industry members, 2010 will be another year of transformation for the government, DoD, the Services and those that support the various energy, environment and sustainability programs. E2S2 will be the place to learn what is happening, hear the latest policy and budget changes, begin planning for FY11 and interact with your colleagues and professional counterparts in the Environment, Energy, and Sustainability communities.

The NDIA staff continues to work with the Colorado Convention Center to “Green” the conference facility and we encourage each of you to look for ways to “Green” your exhibits and support the efforts to reduce our cumulative impact. Thank you for your support of E2S2. If you would like to become a member of the Environment, Energy Security, or Sustainable Design and Construction committees, please contact NDIA.

We will again offer CEUs for attendance through Central Florida University. We look forward to seeing you at this year’s event.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ABSTRACTS ARE DUE DECEMBER 1, 2009 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

BUILD YOUR OWN SESSION

If you have a topic that is larger than a single presentation, you can apply to “Build Your Own Session” (BYOS). BYOS enables you to bring together a series of speakers focused on one topic. BYOS will be half a day in length, which translates to five or six 20-minute presentations. If you choose to leave the sixth (last) time block as a discussion panel with all the speakers, please include that information in your abstract.

As the BYOS Organizer, you are responsible for identifying the topic, structuring the session, inviting the speakers, submitting abstracts for the entire session, submitting abstracts for each of the speakers, and moderating the session. BYOS submissions will only be considered when they are complete (all abstracts have been submitted.)

The session leader must identify their intent for a BYOS and indicate the speakers that will participate either by name or abstract number. Each individual speaker must then indicate at the beginning of the abstract that they are included in the BYOS (Title of BYOS) and indicate the leader’s name. Presentations will then be matched to the BYOS and reviewed together. All submissions should be entered under the BYOS category on the submission site.

Submission deadlines are the same for individual and BYOS abstracts.

SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT

Abstracts must be submitted electronically through the website: http://application.ndia.org/abstracts/0440. All requested information must be completed for the abstract to be considered. Once an abstract has successfully been submitted, a confirmation email will be sent to the Principal Author.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION FORMAT

Principal Author/PresenterThe full name and contact information for the principal author. This person is the main contact for the abstract/presentation and will receive all notifications, confirmations, and further instructions from NDIA. They will also be listed as the presenter in the symposium program if the abstract is selected for presentation.

Additional Authors Any additional authors for the abstract submission can be listed in this area and their names will appear on the “additional authors” page in the symposium brochure.

Author Biographies The presenter’s biography should be submitted here for use by the session chair during the symposium. Short introductory comments are preferred.

Abstract Category Please select the category to which your abstract belongs, according to the parameters outlined in this Call for Papers. Choose the main section of Environment, Energy, Sustainability or Build Your Own Session, then choose the subcategory.

ContentYour title should be catchy and concise as it will be listed in the symposium brochure. Since numerous abstracts will be submitted, it is important that the abstract clearly outlines the objective, scope of work, results, lessons learned, and conclusions. Preference will be given to those abstracts that provide a concise and thorough summary of the project objectives and results. Abstracts with a strong commercial slant will be rejected.

LengthYour title cannot exceed 200 characters. Your abstract cannot exceed 5000 characters.

ReviewAbstracts received by December 1, 2009 will be reviewed for technical merit, currency, and relevance to the symposium. Authors will be notified if their abstract has been accepted for presentation on or around December 15, 2009.

PresentationSubmission must be appropriate for a 20-minute oral presentation with 5 minutes for questions and answers. All presenters are required to pay the symposium registration fee.
