Artists, non- profits, and business innovators are making Garden City home. Two such organizations—Surel’s Place, an Artist-in-Residence program on 33rd Street, and Cinder, a locally-owned winery on 44th Street--are joining forces to commission a mural with the theme of “Garden of Creativity ” for an alley wall at 107 E. 44th Street (between 44th and 43 rd ), opposite the entrance of Cinder’s urban winery and tasting room. This will be the second of five murals developed for this site. Adjacent wall spaces will be available for murals in future years. 2014 MURAL The first mural, created by Sector 17 in 2014 after a successful Kickstarter campaign is a vibrant celebration of life in Garden City. SELECTION AND EXHIBITION PROCESS: • A selection panel representing Surel’s Place,

Cinder, Garden City-based businesses and artists will meet, review applications and choose three finalists. The criteria they will consider are appropriateness of type of work for this site and quality of the artwork.

• Cinder will pay $250 to each finalist, who will create detailed proposals

• April 15 proposals will be submitted and put on display at Surel ’s Other Place , on the mezzanine level in Cinder’s tasting room; public input will be solicited.

• At the end of April, the panel will re-convene and select which mural to fund.

• From April to June a crowd-source fundraising effort will raise $5,000 to complete the selected mural.

• From July 1st – Sept 4th: mural will be created. • A pre-harvest celebration will be held at

Cinder where the “reveal” of this second completed mural will take place. Garden City dignitaries will be invited, Surel’s Place supporters, and wine club members.

TERMS

• Artwork will be owned by the property owner whose building it is on.

• Cinder and Surel’s Place will have the right to reproduce the work for sale to raise funds for future Garden City- cultural activities.

• The artist retains the full copyright to the artwork and ability to reproduce it for any other purposes.
