OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
The first International Conference of Emergency Medicine took place in London,
United Kingdom in 1986. Later, in 1989, the International Federation for Emergency
Medicine (IFEM) was created, integrating emergency physicians from Australia, Great
Britain, Canada and the United States. Nowadays this association is constituted by 65
organizations of emergency medicine from all over the world, with the purpose of
promoting the exchange, understanding and international cooperation between
emergency physicians. The Mexican Society of Emergency Medicine N.G.O
(MSEM), a member of the IFEM, has the honor of organizing the ICEM 2018 for the
first time with Mexico as the host country.
The MSEM is pleased to invite national and foreign health professionals and
researchers to participate in the Contest of Research Works that will take place at the
17th International Conference of Emergency Medicine (ICEM) based in
Citibanamex, Mexico City, Mexico, from June 5 to June 9, 2018.
AWARDS
A range of awards for Research Excellence will be awarded:
• Best Original Research
• Best Research in Translational Medicine
• Best Research by Emergency Staff in Training
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
• Only original research work in a clinical field, epidemiology and basic
research related to the medical specialty of Emergency Medicine will be
accepted.
• Lead (first) authors are only allowed to register one work for the contest.
However, they may participate as co-authors in other abstracts.
• The lead author must register the abstract at the website: www.icem2018.org

• The lead author will receive a notification via email that the abstract has been
successfully registered.
• The registered abstracts will be evaluated by the IFEM Research Committee and
the organising MSEM Scientific Committee and selected for either oral or
poster presentation
• The points evaluated on each abstract will be:
o Coverage of the subject matter o Degree of clinical impact of the research question and results o Drafting style o Organisation of all parts of the abstract o Clarity of the research question and hypothesis o Sufficient background information o Clear and logical methodology o Clarity of the results o Clear interpretation of the results and conclusions according the research
question • The lead author will receive an email notification stating that the abstract was
accepted, the type of presentation (oral or poster), as well as the instructions for
the presentation.
Registration deadline: March 1st 2018
ABSTRACT FORMAT
The abstract must be send in English, respecting the following format:
• 'Abstract' – (Times New Roman, font: bold, italics, size 10)
Text of the abstract (Times New Roman, font: size 9, line spacing 1.0, 500
words maximum, no quoting references)
Sections: Introduction, Methodology, Results, Conclusions.
'Key Words' – (Times New Roman, font: bold, italics size 10)
4 words in alphabetical order separated by commas (Times New Roman, font:
size 9)
For example:
Title Last name First name, co-authors.
Abstract–These instructions give you guidelines for preparing papers for conferences or journals. Use this document as a template if you are using Microsoft Word. Otherwise, use this document as an instruction set. The electronic file of your paper will be formatted further at WASET. Define all symbols used in the abstract. Do not cite references in the abstract; it sets the footnote at the bottom of this column. Page margins are 1.78 cm top and down; 1.65 cm left and right. Each column width is 8.89 cm and the separation between the columns is 0.51 cm. Keywords–About four key words or phrases in alphabetical order, separated by commas.

ADJUDICATION
• The selected abstracts will be evaluated by the IFEM Research Committee and
by the organising MSEM Scientific Committee.
• The highest scoring abstracts of research in Translational Medicine and
Research by Emergency Staff in Training will be chosen after the last day of
the registration process and before the conference starts.
• The six abstracts with the highest score will be selected for a 15 minutes long
oral presentation during the Best Paper session. This will take place the last day
of the conference, 90 minutes before the Closing Ceremony, in order to judge
the award for the Best Original Work of Research. A panel of 3-4 adjudicators
will judge the quality of each presentation and will chose the winner.
• All prizes will be awarded at the conference Closing Ceremony.
