WHYCALINAN?

Calinan is a hub for agriculture with an agricultural area consisting of 15,521.906 has, 69% of its total landarea. At present, there are 7,939.974 has for prime agriculture and 7,581.932 has for agricultural non-tillage.The Tugbok Clay, Calinan District's soil composition, is suitable for agriculture because it contains rich nutrientsand has the ability to retain plenty of moisture needed for a healthy plant growth.

The development of the district is mainly invested by agriculture. According to the Japan InfrastructureCooperation Agency (JICA), by 2054, the estimated employment in the agriculture sector will be 43,547 . It is evident that the district is for agriculture because Calinan is rooted from the word Colina, which means ‘waterthat changed direction.'

Aside from agriculture, there are also investment that nurtures culture. The district is also abundant in legacyfrom pre-World War II.

The top five (5) grown crops in Calinan is brought about by the land areas itoccupied over the years. Sumifru Corporation occupies the largest growth area interms of Cavendish Banana. It also has the biggest capitalization among businessestablishments in Calinan District.

The area also has a number of Cacao, Durian, and Pineapple plantations which arefocused on export market. On the other hand, rice fields are one of the sources oflivelihood of the residents in Calinan Distirct.

The small enterprises have Php506,708,065.02 worth ofcapitalization while the mediumenterprise have the leastcapitalization of Php 264,954,320.26.The Micro Small Medium Enterprises(MSMEs) of the district contribute tothe development and livelihood of thearea.

Evidently, Calinan District being an agricultural investment hub, the top ten (10)business establishments are into agribusiness. Sumifru( Philippines) Corporation isa multi-national company that engages in exporting bananas mainly in Japan andChina. The Davao Agricultural Ventures Corp. is involved in cultivating pineapplesfor export market. The presence of export, has contributed to the growth in theGross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Davao Region.

District Information

Health centers are the main health facility that is available for the residents. At present,there are only one hospitals established in the district, Committee of German Doctorsfor Developing, Inc.

Education is a right for every Filipino.Thus, the presence of public schools is an indication ofgovernment 's support for Calinan's welfare foreducation. Over the years, tertiary education is alsopresent in the district. Holy Cross of Calinan is the onlyinstitution which offers various college degree courses.

Basic Infrastructures and Utilities

The developing Calinan district is already accessed by basic utilities for daily needssuch as electricity and water. Electricity is provided by Aboitiz Power through DavaoCity Light and Power (DCLP) while water system is from Davao City Water District(DSWD).

Transportation

For transportation access, Calinan District is 23 km from the City proper. It takesapproximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to reach the district depending on the flow ofthe traffic. Aside from private vehicles, there are public transportation going toCalinan. Within the district, motorcycles and tricycles are the means oftransportation. The trading in Calinan District is easier because the concrete roadsare well-maintained.

The Prayer Mountain of Quiboloy of theKingdom of Jesus in Tamayong Calinan isknown for its peaceful place for meditation. A lot of people visit here for its scenicviews.

Gaisano Grand of Calinan is the newestmall in the district. It was established in2015. The area has only two (2) malls.The pioneer mall is Felcris Calinan.

Huni Farm is one of the newest agri-tourism sites which promotes organicproduce. The farm is situated in Wangan,Calinan.

Dairy Best products made by theFederation of Davao Dairy FarmersCooperative (FDDFC) is also located in Calinan. These products are locally madethat satisfy a lot of customers for its tasteand freshness.
