CalMHSAA 2004 California Voter-Approved Initiative (Prop 63) that provides an average of $1 Billion in annual funds to support community-based mental health services
Suicide Prevention
20% of funds goes to Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI)
Counties through CalMHSA implement statewide prevention programs
Seeks transformation from a system driven by crisis to one that focuses on prevention, early intervention, wellness and recovery, and reducing disparities Nearly 15 years ago
the US surgeon general identified the stigma of mental illness as the formidable obstacle to progress in improving mental health.

Social Marketing:
• Over 40 local organizations and schools reached with outreach materials, trainings, technical assistance and/or presentations
• Collaborated with Sacramento County to develop mental health brochures for emerging refugee communities from Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan
• In fiscal year 2015-2016, nearly 12,000 outreach and education materials were distributed
• Provided continual access to a designated Each Mind Matters Resource Navigator

• Disseminated over 750 Know The Signs suicide prevention education materials
• Hosted a Know The Signs resource table at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for staff, local providers, and peer supporter

Social Marketing:
• Community mini-grants provided to participating members of the California Black Health Network, participating John Muir Charter Schools, California Consortium for Urban Indian Health, Earth Mama Healing, NorCal Mental Health Association, and Mental Health America, California to reach Sacramento County communities with outreach, informational resources and engagement in social marketing campaigns.
• Provided informational training webinars to County staff and local partners (open to all)

• School-based performance and interactive website to education 9-13 year olds about mental health
• Last year performances in Sacramento County reached over 1,000 youth
• Website includes training for teachers, classroom curriculum, and full performance video

The Future of Statewide PEI
• Phase III Strategic Plan for Statewide PEI Project was approved on Dec. 15, 2016.
• Phase III prioritizes:
• Capacity building support and subject matter technical assistance to support local programs
• Resource navigation and strategic planning support to help counties integrate Statewide PEI Project into local programs
• New outreach materials to reach diverse audiences
