in July of 1769• Named for Saint

Didacus of Alcala• Located 6 miles from

the city of San Diego on Presidio Hill

Native Americans of San Diego

• Nervous of close contact with the missionaries

• Spanish missionaries brought gifts for the Native Americans

• Some natives stole goods from the missionaries

Life at the San Diego Mission

• Native American Children went to school during the day

• Not only did they learn to speak the Spanish Language, the Indian children also learned the Christian ways from the padres

• Their parents worked in the fields or learning a trade such as… weaving, painting, and carving.
