 1849. Octavo (9 3/4 x 6 1/4 inches). Uncut. 19pp. Stitched,

later red cloth four fold chemise, all within a red morocco-

backed cloth slipcase, titled in gilt on the spine. Provenance:

Henry Lafayette Dodge (1810-1856, inscription dated 1850,

U.S. Indian Agent in New Mexico, killed by Apache).

The rare first separate printing of California's first

Constitution: this is one of the most important and difficult

to obtain state Constitutions, and includes the very rare

three-page "Address" found in only a few copies.

pages numbered 1-25).  The cover sheet inscribed in red

pencil "File" in the upper right corner.  Cross outs and

corrections in Roddenberry's hand on page 17, concerning

the character Mr. Spock. Housed in a black morocco box.

Provenance: sold by Roddenberry's widow, Majel Barrett-

Roddenberry, Christie's East, 18 June 1998, lot 61.

Roddenberry's original typewritten and corrected draft of

the pitch for Star Trek.

A very fine complete set of this important record of all of

the greatest orchid varieties discovered and described

during the nineteenth century, with beautiful illustrations

of the highest quality by John Nugent Fitch.
