As I think about May's message it's a challenge to know where to start. Not long ago a few of us debated over the de-cision to cancel the Quilt Show, Quilt ‘Til You Wilt, and our April meeting. Within a day of those decisions our world changed dramatically as the Pandemic took hold and cancelling events for months, not weeks, became the norm. This time of isolation and social distancing has been one of heartache and gifts. The heartache comes from keeping vigil over a close friend who has been fighting for his life in the ICU, where no one, not even his wife can be with him. It's also hard not to worry about family and those working in health care, as first responders, and all those ensuring our safety by doing everything from keeping the utilities operating to trucking gas, groceries and essential goods across the country. I know worrying does absolutely no good, so I try to stay focused on what I know and have today. My greatest gift is to be socially isolated with a very energetic five year old who pulls me into his days of wonder and joy. A three km. walk to the mailbox becomes a chance to sing “We Will Rock You” at the top of our voices, while run-ning in a zig-zag pattern around pot holes, looking for birds and hilarious shapes in the clouds, seize every opportunity to climb on boulders, and make up crazy rhymes while keeping on the lookout for leopards and bad guys. My second gift has been the chance to reconnect and check-in with friends and family across the globe, as well as participate in some very creative virtual group activities. I'm also truly thankful to have a safe home to live in and a country whose health experts and politicians are pulling together to guide us through this crisis. When I find the time, I will have the magic of quilting to keep me focused. Please keep yourself safe and we'll fill the room with your amazing (social distancing) quilts when next we meet. April 8, 2020 Dear Kawartha Quiltmakers' Guild Members: I know it will come as no surprise when I tell you that the KQG May 6th and June 3rd general meetings are cancelled. Basically, all KQG Meetings and Workshops are cancelled until further notice. I scan Health Canada's Website daily for estimates of how long the social distancing and restrictions on group gatherings will be in place (based on the epide-miological predictor models). However, it's still too early to tell. Health Canada's website states “The province has enacted a declaration of emergency to help contain the spread of COVID-19 and protect the public. All organized public events of over 5 people are prohibited. These orders will remain in place until April 13, 2020, when the province will reassess for an extension or end the closures.” There have also been federal projections that the pandemic could be with us for many months. Even when the ban is lifted and life begins returning to normal, our Guild may be a little slower to gather given our demographics, and close proximity to each other in meetings. The health and safety of our members and their families has to be our top priori-ty. I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the incredible work that many of you have done in preparing for meetings, programs, events, retreats and the Quilt Show. The disappointment of postponing the Quilt Show feels like losing our “Olympics” – we had a team captain and starting training almost 1.5 years ago. We were so close and while thwarted we won't be stopped. All your efforts and your fabulous quilts will lead to a “Gold medal finish” when we rebook and carry on, hopefully next Spring. I am also asking you to take a moment to consider volunteering for one of the available Chairperson positions in Help-ing Hands, Program/Workshops and Nominations. You will be joining an awesome team and I know the current com-mittee members are most willing to lend their help in smoothing the transition and supporting you get off to a great start. Thank you all, for humouring me and supporting me over the past two years; for showing up at meetings no matter what else is happening in your life; for embracing all the changes and incredible ideas, styles, techniques that find their way to us; and for jumping in and reaching out to help over and over and over. In closing, I must acknowledge the dedication and work of all the committee members who without exception have “gone beyond the call of duty” to ensure you have a full experience from monthly newsletters and an accessible web-site to being welcomed as you arrive at meetings, given membership lists, enlightened by programs, offered refresh-ments, encouraged to borrow from the library and participate in the afternoon programs, and try your luck at winning money and quilts. Behind the scenes bills are paid and accounts settled, events archived, nominations and advertisers are sought and readings selected. While Heather and I are seen in action at meetings, you must know that it's Tina who has been keeping us all on track and moving forward for the past 4 years. I am so grateful to you all. Dear Fellow Guild Members:
I can just imagine all of the beautiful quilts and other projects that you are all finishing and working on and you can't wait to show all of these lovely things to your fellow guild members. Debbie Fisico presented a question - how could we share our work during this time?
As you may or may not know, our Guild does have a Facebook Page and after consultation with Debra Graham, one of the administrators of the page, it is felt that this page would be a wonderful avenue to share our work and to stay connected with our quilting friends.
We do understand that not everyone wants to have a Facebook page or join Facebook pages; however, if you do - our Facebook Page is a private page where only the Kawartha Quiltmakers' Guild members are invited to join. We are collecting milk bags for a group who is
making sleeping mats for people in third world
countries.

We are a volunteer organization and registered Canadian Charity whose mission is to deliver
quilts to cancer patients in our community. The quilts are intended to provide comfort and
warmth to those undergoing cancer treatments and are provided at no cost to either the recipient
or the person requesting the quilt.

Sew Sew
We are a sewing group which meets at Northminister Church. We stitch hats and PICC line covers for patients
undergoing cancer treatments. We also make toques and mitts for unfortunate children in area schools. We
are collecting soft stretch cotton, polar fleece, 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch elastic and 45ml snaps.

Green Shop
Donations of fabric and sewing notions can be donated to the Green Shop which is part of ARRAY Services.
They are a non-profit agency that provides support services to deaf/non-verbal individuals living with intellec-
tual disabilities. The Green Shop is a collective that teaches skills and produces practical goods which are then
sold in the community. They are open 9 to 3 Monday to Friday and are located at 192B Hunter Street beside
the Running Room at the end of the laneway...thank you!

Program. To the Ladies who led a project - "Thank You".
What a great year we had! We couldn't do it without all of you.
We hope to reschedule the projects that had been planned for April and May. We

(Some exceptions may apply). Bring along your sewing machine, some basic tools and your lunch.
Learn a new project and/or bring your own and sew the afternoon away with us!
