Daubigny, Monet, Van Gogh: Impressions of Landscape

Join us March 18th for an informative talk on the Taft Museum’s groundbreaking international exhibition, Daubigny, Monet, Van Gogh: Impressions of Landscape, with Lisa Morrisette, Taft’s manager of school and docent programs. Lisa will present a surprisingly overlooked force in the development of Impressionism. We will learn about Daubigny’s connection to the Impressionists and hear who inspired Monet and Van Gogh. She

will look at the Impressionist movement as it crosses the Atlantic and influences American artists in the late 19th and early 20 centuries. It took 14 years to plan and secure the amazing paintings for this exhibit which presents about 55 paintings, including 40 masterpieces by Daubigny plus a selection of about 15 Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings by Van Gogh and Pissarro which reveal Daubigny’s influence.

This is a great opportunity to learn about the roots of this great movement through Lisa’s engaging talk and slide presentation.

The cost of dinner is now $20 per person. To make a reservation call Catering Chair, George Hageman at (937) 278-7742 or e-mail: dinner@cincinnatiartclubcom. Reservation deadline is 4:00pm the Wednesday before the meeting. Early reservations are very much appreciated. If you should need to cancel, do so before the Wednesday deadline. Traditionally the Club requests payment at the door by CHECK only in order to facilitate getting people in quickly and having an accurate record of payment.

Gene has been a member of the Club for 45 years. This is longer than any other member in Club history. He joined January 5,1971.

Gene has been an active participant for all of those years and has held every board position, except treasurer, and some of those chairs he held twice. As exhibition chairman he also had responsibility for Viewpoint.

The last position Gene held was historian of club documents and the history of the Cincinnati Art Club. Gene spent over three years cataloging, scanning and digitizing every scrap of information in the Club’s archive and put it on CD’s which were then given to the

While we look at the Duvenecks, Farnys and Wessels for our heritage, and boast of their achievement in the art world, Gene’s unselfish gift to the Club was not only the preservation of the records, but touching every one of our lives by preserving our name as a member, and every mention of our individual activities as they appeared in the Dragonfly, secretary’s minutes, and any other mentions found in the files. We are all now part of that heritage.

Gene’s years were also spent not only studying portrait painting and drawing, but arranging

speakers, teachers and workshops for members of the Cincinnati Art Club. Most notable was Daniel Green who came to the club on several occasions.

This is an opportunity for you to view and purchase some excellent paintings or drawings for your collection. Gene has purposely priced his paintings so they are affordable to anyone wanting one in their collection. Again, Gene is giving back of his time, energy and talent to the Club.

Let’s all join together in making this a Historic Exhibit and letting Gene know how much we appreciate him as a member, friend and mentor.
