Christie HennessyThose who have boxed off Christie under a label headed quaint/funny/sentimental may get a surprise when they check out his live concert. MurderballDIRECTED BY HENRY-ALEX RUBIN & DANA ADAM SHAPIRO, USA / CANADA, 2004, 85 MINS, 15A Murderball is the result of a 36 month all-access pass to locker rooms, bedrooms, churches, and hospitals. It’s a film about relearning everything you’ve ever known. It’s a film about standing up, even after your spirit, and your spine, have been crushed. This is a roller-coaster ride of human drama, athletic excellence, and heart-stopping competition.

SUNDAY 1 APRIL 8PM

€7 (INCLUDES TEA/COFFEE)

FatelessDIRECTED BY LÁJOS KOLTAI, HUNGARY / GERMANY / UK, 2005, 134 MINS, 12A Based on a semi-autobiographical story, the film follows a 14 year old Hungarian Jewish boy as he is separated from his family and interned in a suc-cession of Nazi concentration camps. Amid the deprivation and brutality, he takes solace in the kindness of an array of characters. Fateless offers an incisive, unflinching view of personal despair and tenacious perseverance.

€7 FILM ONLY/€20 FOR FILM, PAELLA & SANGRIA

VolverDIRECTED BY PEDRO ALMODÓVAR, SPAIN, 2006, 120 MINS, 15A Volver comes at family secrets and generation gaps from several angles, looking at the split-second impulses that hide the truth - literally. Raimunda’s routine is seriously destabilised when her long-dead mother, Irene, begins making appearances in their hometown, and is soon setting about right-ing some wrongs she was unable to redress before.

SUNDAY 15 APRIL 8PM

€7 (INCLUDES TEA/COFFEE) GLÓR FRIENDS: 2 FOR 1

OffsideDIRECTED BY JAFAR PANAHI, IRAN, 2006, 88 MINS Offside is an hilarious, comic and hugely entertain-ing film, cleverly illustrating the fight for women’s rights in Iran, using a non-professional cast. As the stakes increase, the film veers away from tension by showing the sheer absurdity of the situation. It is probably Jafar Panahi’s most accessible and spontaneous picture to date.

SUNDAY 22 APRIL 8PM

Paradise NowDIRECTED BY HANY ABU-ASSAD, PALESTINE / NETHER-

LANDS / GERMANY / FRANCE, 2005, 90 MINS, 12A Paradise Now is a hard-hitting and provocative account of the final hours of two Palestinian men recruited to carry out a suicide mission. When plans go awry, their convictions are tested as they are forced to choose between life, each other, and fulfilling their missions. A film that forces you off the fence it shines an unexpected light on its tragedy.

GlastonburyDIRECTED BY JULIEN TEMPLE, UK, 2005, 135 MINS In 1970, a young farmer named Michael Eavis opened his farm to 1,500 people to watch a handful of pop and folk stars perform all weekend long. Glastonbury Festival was born. With foot-age from every Glastonbury Festival, interweaving images of impromptu art happenings, sceptical locals, and stirring performances by music leg-ends, Glastonbury skilfully chronicles the evolution of the longest-running music festival in the world.

Paul Lynam has had several exhi-bitions, both solo and group, including the RHA Gallagher Gallery, Dublin, (2004), glór, (2005), and the Civic Theatre, Dublin (2006).
