4.0 Purpose
The purpose of this engineering technical evaluation is to provide justification for the MINCo RTD "Table Accuracy" term used withincalculation no. 98-ENG-02405D2. Also, this engineering technical evaluation will contain the calibration tables for the calibrated RTDsTE-6928, TE-6929 and TE-6930.

7.0 Discussion
TE-6928, TE-6929 and TE-6930 are the Vital AC Switchgear Room Cooling Coil (Xl 81A and X811B) Service Water Inlet RTDs. LoopsT-6928, T-6929 and T-6930 are used in technical specification surveillance SP 2619A, "Control Room Shift Checks," to record and verifythat the "Ultimate Heat Sink" temperature is less than 74.5 degrees F.
TE-6928, TE-6929 and TE-6930 are MINCo. model no. XS7927PKIL76S RTDs, serial nos. S/N 1309, S/N 1270 and S/N 1269,respectively. RTDs S/N 1269 and S/N 1270 were certified by MINCo in 1993 and RTD S/N 1309 was certified by MINCo in 2000.MINCo certified all three RTDs to a stated accuracy value of± 0.025 degrees C (refer to the attached MINCo "Report of Calibrations"and "MINCo Accuracy Statement"). This supported the SCA term used in calculation no. 98-ENG-02405D2, revision no. 0.
A subsequent calibration of these particular serial number RTDs was performed by the Millstone Metrology Lab in 2009. New R vs Ttables were generated and used for the calibration of each of the temperature loops (refer to the attached "SN 1269, SN 1270 and SN 1309Met Lab Calibration Curves"). Information provided by the Millstone Metrology Lab indicates that the standards used by the lab tocalibrate these RTDs is ± 0.0038 degrees C (refer to the attached "Met Lab RTD Cal Uncertainty Cales. And Met Lab RTD CalUncertainty Information). This uncertainty value bounds the A: 0.025 degrees C used in the SCA term in calculation no. 98-ENG-02405D2.
To ensure the Metrology Lab curves approximated those produced by MINCo, this ETE compared the values of the M]NCo curves to theMetrology Lab curves. The original R vs T tables provided by MINCo were not found. However, within MINCo's website, an RTDTable Generator was used to generate the R vs T tables using the coefficients of the original M1NCo RTD calibration reports. UsingEXCEL, R vs T curves were plotted using resistance and temperature values over the 0 to 100 degrees F calibrated span of thesetemperature loops in 5 degrees F increments (21 data points). Again using EXCEL, R vs T curves were plotted using the 2009 MetrologyLab generated tables for these RTDs. The two curves generated for each serial no. RTD were compared. The worst case error noted andexpressed as a percent of span (0 to 100 degrees F span) for S/N 1269, S/N 1270 and S/N 1309 was ± 0.033 % (± 0.033 degrees F), ±0.01 % (- 0.01 degrees F) and ± 0.066 % (± 0.066 degrees F), respectively. As stated earlier, S/N 1269 and S/N 1270 were certified byMINCO 16 years prior to the Metrology Lab calibration and S/N 1309 was certified by MINCo 9 years prior to the Metrology Labcalibraion. For S/N 1269 and S/N 1270, a MINCo stated 16 years drift term "root sum of the square" combined with the MINCorepeatability statement for this model no. RTD equates to ± 0.36 % (0.36 degrees F). For S/N 1309, a MINCo stated 9 years drift term"root sum of the square" combined with the MINCo repeatability statement for this model no. RTD equates to ± 0.27 % (0.27 degreesF). The worst case error in the curves generated by MINCo as compared to the 2009 Metrology Lab calibrations indicates that theseparticular serial no. RTDs did not drift very much over their respective 9 year and 16 year period and certainly much less than expected.
8.0 Conclusions
The ± 0.025 degrees C value used in the SCA term for RTD accuracy in calculation no. 98-ENG-2405D2 is valid. This value is used as"Table Accuracy" in revision no. 2 of this calculation.

Measurement uncertainty for all standards used for calibration of RTDs by the Millstone Metrology Laboratory is ±0.0038*C. This excludes the uncertainty of theCallendar Van Dusen equation, which generates the Temperature vs. Resistance table and coefficients. The CVD equation, used to generate the table and

coefficients, contributes such an inconsequential uncertainty, that it is not worthy of consideration.The RTD data provided by Minco has an uncertainty of 0.0250 C. The calibrations performed by the Millstone Metrology Laboratory are 6.58 times more accurate.

Gus,I just now got it from engineering."Somewhere, I seem to have missed the original request for a 0.025°C accuracy guarantee. I have attached an old catalog page that describes the different _•
mcalibration tables, and their associated accuracy. Please note that their probe model (57927) is not listed in this table (it had already been discontinued whenT
the catalog was published). However, calibration table RT01 is listed as being accurate to +/-0.025°C. I have also attached the S7927 specification drawingthat provides repeatability and stability for this model.
You may notice that the model number listed on the calibration certs is "XS7927PK ". The "X" prefix designates an alteration of some sort from the standard-- :;0
design. In this case, "X" stands for a 200-ohm platinum element. That does not affect table calibration accuracy, nor repeatability, nor stability."

CalibrationMinco's fully equipped standards labcan calibrate and furnish Individualtables for any thermometer in thisbulletin. All temperatures are basedon ITS-90. There are two types ofcalibration:
Fixed point calibrations
furnishes the actual fixed point val-ues and the resulting coefficients.
Comparison calibrationsUsed for oil filled thermometers,comparison calibrations match thethermometer to be measured againstan NIST traceable standard, ratherthan fixed points.
Absolute vs ratio tables
reads 1.77328 at 2001C. A ratio likethis tends to remain more stable overtime than an absolute resistance.You can periodically recheck Rooc inan ice bath and use the latest valuefor ratio calculation.
RTD calculations
These calibrations use measurementstaken at points derived from physicalconstants, such as the triple point ofwater or the freezing point of tin.The observed values are used to cal-culate coefficients for the interpolat-ing equations of ITS-90. In additionto the comniete R vs T table. Minco

The Minco strain-free elementMinco precision thermometers rely on a unique element de-sign for superior precision. It consists of a helical coil of plati-num wire, spiraled onto a grooved ceramic bobbin. This con-struction gives more support to the coils than "birdcage"designs, but does not stress the element during thermal ex-pansion. The result is stable and repeatable measurementsunder a variety of conditions.
