    One of the project elements includes the addition of bulb-outsalong California Avenue for

    - the planting of additional trees,- additional public art, or

    - installation of tables and seating for outside dining.

    The existing California Avenue Park Plaza adjacent to the

    Caltrain Station is also identied for revitalization with thisproject, including enhanced bike rack facilities, information

    kiosks to promote the Citys Bicycle Plan currently under

    development, and seating areas with gaming elements topromote community interest.

    The environmental phase will include a

    1) trafc analysis and

    2) completion of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)requirements for the project.

    The trafc analysis will include the collection of trafc data onCalifornia Avenue, Cambridge Avenue, Sherman Avenue, AshStreet, Birch Street, and Park Boulevard so that a 4-lane to 2-lanereduction on California Avenue may be considered.

    Trafc data collection began on November 2, 2010 including trafcvolumes, pedestrian and bike volumes, and vehicle speeds.
