Arrrrr…. You ready for 4-H Achievement
Day? 4-H members can participate
in any of the 4-H contests, which will
be held on Achievement Day. 4-H
members participating in contests
will compete according to grade
level divisions.
Divisions are:
Cloverbud Division
Division 1 – grades 4 and 5
Division 2 – 6, 7, and 8 grades
Division 3 – grades 9, 10, 11, and 12
Awards for all contests conducted
on Achievement Day will be
presented at May club meetings.
The following guidelines will help
you prepare for the 4-H contests.
DEMONSTRATION CONTEST
Demonstration
Demonstration may be on any
appropriate topic.
1. An individual 4-H member or a
team of 4-H members may
conduct the demonstration.
No more than 2 members may
be on a team.
2. Demonstration should range in
length of 3-6 minutes. No copy
of the demonstration is need-
ed. Bring all equipment and
other items needed for your
demonstration.
4-H PUBLIC SPEAKING
1. Contestant may speak on any
appropriate topic. Speeches
should be 3-5 minutes in length.
2. Posters or other illustrated ma-
terials may be used.
GOOD GROOMING
INTERVIEW CONTEST
1. Boys and girls will compete sepa-
rately in Division 1 and 2 and
will compete according to
grade level divisions. Boys and
girls in 9th-12th grades will com-
pete together in the same divi-
sion.
2. 4-H members must compete and
submit a resume for this con-
test. Resume forms will be dis-
tributed at 4-H club meetings in
March or can be obtained
from the 4-H office. Resume
forms must be submitted to
judges on 4-H Achievement
Day. Participants without re-
sume forms will not be allowed
to participate in this contest.
Resume forms will not be available
at Achievement Day!!
3. A judge will interview partici-
pants. The interview will be 2-3
minutes in length. Judges will
ask questions concerning re-
sume information. Participants
will be scored on participation
in the interview, manners,
speaking ability, overall ap-
pearance, and resume com-
pletion and neatness.
4. Participants must be dressed
nicely. Participants dressed in
shorts, jeans, t-shirts, jogging
suits, and/or tennis shoes will
not be allowed to participate in
this contest.
PLANT SCIENCE CONTEST
4-H members who are in the Discov-
ering 4-H Project, See Them Sprout
Project, and the Horticulture Project
will be allowed to participate in this
contest. Contest will consist of a
written test and plant identification
test.
WOOD WORKING CONTEST
Any 4-H member can enter one
completed wood project to display
and be judged at Achievement
Day.
PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST
Any 4-H member will be allowed to
participate in this contest. The con-
test will consist of a written test per-
taining to material from project
book. Members who participate in
this contest on Achievement Day
should also bring a photo sample.
The photo sample should be a pic-
ture taken by the 4-Her, no bigger
than 5x7 attached to a standard
sized paper. Write a brief para-
graph describing your picture. *
Photo and description must be
turned in at Achievement Day.

4-H Treasure
Design a 4-H Treasure to represent
4-H.
1. Must include the word 4-H, 4-H
clover, and school name.
2. Should promote school or
parish 4-H activities that
4-Her’s can or have
participated in.
3. Your 4-H treasure should be on a
flat surface such as a poster. The
size should be no bigger than a
regular poster. Your 4-H treasur-
er will be used to
decorate the stage.
4. This should be a club project.
Only one 4-H Treasure per
school 4-H club.
5. Have Fun and Be creative!
4-H Treasures are due to the 4-H
Office by , March 14, 2014.
4-H FASHION REVIEW
Do you like fashion? If so, you
can enter the Terrebonne Parish
4-H Fashion Review. The contest will
be held at Achievement Day. Any
4-H’er can participate in this parish
activity. To participate in this con-
test, contact Ms. Cherie Roger at
985-873-6495 for registration forms
by February 24, 2014. Registration
forms and garments will be due to
the 4-H office by March 14, 2014.
4-H Treasure Hunt
Ahoy, me hearties!" Join us
for a treasure hunt once you
have competed in your contest.
As a group of shipmates and pi-
rates, journey on a hunt to find
the many treasures of 4-H. DRESS CODE
Casual dress is permitted. Short-
shorts, spaghetti-strap shirts, halter
tops, torn or extremely baggy cloth-
ing, or mini-skirts/dresses are not al-
lowed. Jeans, shorts, and t-shirts will
be permitted. If you are dressed
inappropriately, you will be asked to
phone home.

Ambassador Talk Contest The Parish Ambassador Talk
Contest will be held on

Achievement Day

dor Talk Topic.
4-H members participating in
the contest should contact
Mrs. Cherie at the 4-H office
for additional rules and
guidelines.

Categories for Presentations:
Egg, Seafood, Chicken, Turkey,
Sugar
The Ambassador Talk promotes
Louisiana Commodities. Develop a
talk about one of the commodities
listed. Follow guidelines and com-
pete at Achievement Day.
COMMODITY AMBASSADOR
DIVISION DESCRIPTIONS:
Division I – (Grades 4-6) The con-
testant designs (a) standard poster
22” X 28” relating to one of five cat-
egories (1) production, (2) food
preparation and nutritive value (3)
food safety, (4) processing, (5) mar-
keting; (b) presents a 2-3 minute
explanation of poster subject; (c)
responds to questions from judges
(see attached scorecards). No dish
required. Costumes based on
theme are acceptable. No notes or
outlines, other than wording on the
poster are to be used while giving
the presentation.
Division II – (Grades 7-9) The con-
testant designs (a) standard poster
22” X 28” relating to one of the five
categories (1) production, (2) food
preparation and nutritive value (3)
food safety, (4) processing, (5) mar-
keting; (b) prepares an essay not to
exceed 500 words or 3 typed pag-
es, (12- 14 spaces per inch) double
spaced, about the selected sub-
ject; (c) presents a 2-3 minute ex-
planation of subject; (d) responds
to questions from judges (see at-
tached scorecards). No dish re-
quired. Costumes based on theme
are acceptable. No notes or out-
lines, other than wording on the
poster are to be used while giving
the presentation.
Division III – (Grades 10-12) The
contestant will present a 5-8 minute
oral presentation following current
guidelines of the national commod-
ity illustrated talk contests. (Only
Egg Illustrated Talk requires a dish).
Posters or PowerPoint presentations
may be used. Rules for the use of
PowerPoint presentations are in
“Appendix I for the State 4-H Am-
bassador contests”. Costumes
based on theme are acceptable.
No notes or outlines, other than
wording on the poster are to be
used while giving the presentation.
