A Guide to 2019 Year 10 Subject SelectionsStudents continue with:Maths and EnglishStudents will study Science but make a choice between Science and Practical Science.Student study History for one term and HPE for one termStudents will choose two electives.In 2nd semester students choose a 3rd elective from a range of Health, Physical Education, Humanities and Business subjects. Students can additionally choose Maths/Science Extension as an extra.

SCIENCE- Science or Practical Science?Science• Prepares for all General, Applied subjects and International
Baccalaureate sciences.• Models study and assessment techniques.• Students should have satisfactorily completed 9 Science.

Practical Science• Prepares only for Applied subject.• Practical outlook on science.• Will not prepare students for year 11 General Science
subjects.

• All students study HPE for one term in semester 1.• Students selecting HPE for the whole year cannot select it in semester two. The full year program prepares students for the
physical education subject in year 11/12. This is a university pathway subject with a heavy theory content. If you want to
play more sport don’t pick HPE (full year).

and only if there is room to move.• Can I study other subjects not offered at Cairns High?
No, we offer a greater range of subjects than most schools that all link in with our senior subjects.
• Do I have to do Maths, Science, English, History/Geography/Civics and HPE? Yes they are mandatory under Australian Curriculum.
