Introduction: We are America!People are sick and tired o being sick and tired o politicianstalking about problems and not solving them. For decadesthe big three, Social Security, Medicare, the national debtand a long list o other problems have only gotten worse,

while the politicians just keep on talking, making promises, and creating new problems.

We know Social Security cannot be sustained as it iscurrently structured, so the political elites just keep talkingabout the problem. We know Medicare cannot be sustained,so the Obama administration cuts 500 billion dollars out oit and says they will make it up in efciencies. And insteado getting government out o the way to make health

care more aordable and accessible, President Obamaand the Democrat-controlled Congress passed a hugenew bureaucracy thats already making health care moreexpensive and less accessible.

People want solutions. The solutions do not have to beperect, but they need to be moving in the right direction.Right now they are just getting worse.

Many o our national problems have plenty o low hanging

ruit ideas to get us out o this national quagmire, butpolitics keeps getting in the way. There are plenty o goodideas about how to fx stu, but they never go anywhere. They get stuck in a congressional committee, stuck inanother proposed legislation, stuck in a compromise, or theyget stuck on stupid.

The biggest barrier to solving many o our national problemsis lack o leadership. Leadership is not being the sharpest

knie in the drawer. It is working on the right problem, askingthe right questions, and removing barriers to success (WAR).So instead o solving a specifc problem, both chamberso Congress will try to pass a compromised bi-partisansolution to any and everything that comes up as a problem, and we end up with another hal baked solution. And whenone political party controls both houses o Congress we willsometimes get a completely one sided solution instead othe right solution.

The leadership or solving national problems the right waymust come rom the president. Indeed, the president needsthe input, cooperation and approval o both chambers

o Congress, but 535 Members o Congress cant leadby committee. The president has to lead. Thats how theFounders set it up.

But i the president is more o a politician than a problemsolver, we end up with more hal baked or one sidedsolutions. We have not had a problem solving president inthe White House or decades, which is why our big problemshave only gotten worse, little by little.

This booklet is about solutions, low hanging ruit solutions. They are not complicated to understand, but they aredifcult to get through the political bureaucracy. With a

problem solving president and an inspired public they canhappen. These ideas come rom people, other organizationsand yes, sometimes rom Members o Congress.

Thats why we call this booklet The Peoples Platorm. This iswhat the people want now. They want some common sense, and they are tired o waiting.

America is an exceptional nation. It is exceptional becauseo its history o success, its resiliency through tough times,

and the tenacity o the American people to keep Americastrong, independent, and ree. We reuse to let our problemsester any longer. We reuse to continue on this ast track tosocialism. We reuse to become the United States o Europe.

    We are America!

People are sick and tired of being sick andtired of politicians talking about problemsand not solving them.

Chapter One: Strengthen Our National SecurityThe primary duty o the President o the United States is toprotect our people. In act, it is the principal duty o a limitedederal government. They must ensure that our military andall o our security agencies are strong and capable.

Unortunately, national security has become ar toopoliticized with our elected ofcials using the issue as ameans to polarize our country as the war hawks andthe peace doves. In response, the saety and morale oour brave men and women in uniorm are oten at riskor political gain. The judgment o our military experts onthe ground is oten underutilized in exchange or politicalpurposes. National security isnt about politics. Its about

    deending America.

While diplomacy is a critical tool in solving the complexsecurity issues we ace, it must never compromise militarymight. Because we are such a ree and prosperous people,we are the envy o the world. Many regimes seek to destroyus because they are threatened by our ideals, and they resentour prosperity. We must acknowledge the real and presentdanger that terrorist nations and organizations pose to our

countrys uture.Further, we must stand by our riends and we must not beooled by our enemies. We should never be deceived byterrorists. They only have one objective, namely, to kill all ous. We must always remain vigilant in dealing with adversaries.

We must support our military with the best training, equipment, technology and inrastructure necessary to keepthem in a position to win. We must also provide our men and

women in uniorm, our veterans and their amilies with thebenefts they deserve or their tremendous sacrifce. Theseheroes have served us. We must never orget to serve them.

We must support our military with thebest training, equipment, technology andinfrastructure necessary to keep them ina position to win.

Chapter Two: Unleash Economic GrowthAmerica has long been a beacon o prosperity throughoutthe world. The American Dream has been attained by thosewho were willing to think, work and sacrifce to achieveit. Each dream was dierent, but each dream was made

possible due to the reedoms this country provides.

The role o the ederal government should be to encourageeconomic growth by ensuring conditions that will allowbusinesses to thrive, not just survive. That means lesslegislation, less regulation, lower taxes and business-riendly policies.

The ederal government should not be in the business o

picking and choosing industries they support fnancially. Thishappens in the orm o subsidies, and special tax breaks inwhich the government plays avorite with one industry andin turn, hinders the competitiveness o another. There aresome exceptions, but in Washington it has become the rule.

The ederal government also impedes economic growth byinterering in the employer and employee relationship. Whilelabor unions once provided a representative body to lobbyor air wages and sae working conditions or employees, they now principally serve as a political mechanism or theLet. Forced unionization through the dishonestly namedEmployee Free Choice Act, or card check, would driveup the costs o goods and services, cause hundreds andthousands o jobs to be lost and ultimately, a more powerulsystem o liberal undraising to be maintained.

Currently, the ederal government taxes too much andtoo oten. Meaningul tax reorm should be implemented

immediately to alleviate that suocating tax burden placedon businesses and individuals in America. This meansacross-the-board tax cuts to provide long-term relie, including reducing the capital gains tax, suspending taxes onrepatriated profts and permanently eliminating the death tax.

Te role of the federal government should beto encourage economic growth by ensuringconditions that will allow businesses to thrive, not just survive.

Chapter Three: Cut Government SpendingIt is no secret that ederal government spending is out ocontrol. They view the American taxpayers as a bottomlesspiggybank or their wasteul programs and expansion opower. And we the people will not tolerate it any longer.

The massive debt caused by liberal policies will be passedonto our children and grandchildren i we do not stop it.They will be stuck with the tab or the government takeovero health care, industry bailouts and ailed stimulus packages. They will be the ones approached with outstretched palmsby the Chinese to pay back the billions upon billions we owethem. Each generation o Americans should seek to leavebehind a better and more prosperous nation or the next,

not saddle them with debt rom reckless spending.

Though it might not be politically popular to modernize andeliminate some o our entitlement programs, responsibleleaders should be willing to do it all the same. They must beprepared to make tough choices and learn to simply say no.This can only happen when our elected ofcials stop beingpoliticians and start being leaders. Simply put: there is noDepartment o Happy in Washington, D.C.

Nothing should be o the table. Every ederal agency, everygovernment program and every single expenditure must bereviewed and revised with a keen eye and a red pen. Leadersshould be willing to shrink budgets by target percentages, and those charged with implementing those changes mustbe held accountable.

And it works! I have served as an executive o several majorcorporations. When times were tough and money was tight,

I asked our employees to cut back drastically, and explainedwhy it was necessary, and they did. We have all had to makedifcult decisions in our own household or at our work place.Serious but responsible belt tightening can save businesses, and it can also save our country with the right leadership.

It is no secret that federal government spendingis out of control. Tey view the Americantaxpayers as a bottomless piggybank for theirwasteful programs and expansion of power.

And we the people will not tolerate it any longer.

Chapter Four:Release Our Domestic Energy ResourcesAmerica is a land blessed with abundant natural resourcesand the capability o the people to obtain them. From the

oil-rich states o Louisiana and Alaska to the mighty damsalong rivers across the states, the options or many ormso energy are real and plentiul. Still, liberals continue toperpetuate the misunderstanding that the high energyconsumption o a thriving nation and conservation o ourprecious planet are at odds with one another.

Because they have perpetuated such a myth, liberals haveorced excessive environmental regulations which have

stifled our domestic energy production, and instead, orcedAmerican consumers to rely ar too heavily upon oreign oil.In many cases, this oil comes rom Middle Eastern countries, some o whom are not riendly to the U.S., who end updictating the prices o our energy consumption. In return,Americans have seen no improvements in our environmentor in the cleanliness o our air. We must expand our domesticenergy resources by loosening governments grip responsibly.

Subsidies on agricultural products, like ethanol-producing

corn, have become a mechanism or the government to pickand choose industries it avors, while doing little to enhanceour ability to harness real alternative energy resources.Instead, we must allow all orms o energy the ability todevelop in a ree market system.

Alternative energy sources, such as wind, solar, nuclear andhydroelectric are certainly part o the solution long term, but private industry must take the lead or true innovation

to be a bigger part o our uture energy needs. I alternativeenergy sources are ound to be inexpensive, sae andplentiul, American consumers will choose to purchase them.Let the markets decide which orms o energy uel our cars, heat our homes and which ones will keep America working.

America can develop a path to energy independenceandwe will. We have the resources but we need the leadership.

Let the markets decide which forms of energyfuel our cars, heat our homes and which oneswill keep America working.

Chapter Five: Modernize Social ProgramsBig government enthusiasts designed social programs toprovide a fnancial saety net, but, in turn, dependency onthe government or the most vulnerable in society becamean expected entitlement. Decades since their inception, ar

too many Americans have shited their expectations romgovernment assistance to entitlement. Too many peoplehave exchanged their reedom or a alse sense o securitythat these programs are perceived to provide.

Unortunately, this has not only been to the sociologicaldetriment o America, but also to its economic detriment.Simply, ever-expanding social programs are compromisingthe current and uture fnancial stability o this great

country. According to a May 2009 article in Newsweek, current projections indicate that Medicare will go bankruptby 2017 and Social Security will bottom out by 2037.These fgures are advanced rom 2008s estimates, whichorecasted Medicares bankruptcy to occur in 2019 and2041 or Social Security. Some experts believe theseprograms demise will arrive even sooner.

For the generations who have paid into Social Security and

Medicare, the ederal governments inevitable ailure to paythem as they retire is undeniably stealing. These aregenerations who have worked and sacrifced to leave thiscountry a better place or their children and grandchildren, and we have an obligation to make certain that theirfnancial utures are secure. The current behavior o an outo control ederal government does little to ease their minds.

Its also imperative that we revamp our social and welareprograms, so Americas less ortunate can be oered

a hand-up instead o a handout. The governmentshould help people to be able to help themselves.

We must return to ree market-based solutions thatempower our nations workers to take control over theirproessional and retirement utures. It is essential that wemodernize our Social Security and Medicare programs, whichbegan in 1935 and 1965, respectively. What worked then willnot work today, and the government has a responsibility to

support Americas Golden Age population by empoweringthem instead o restricting them.

Chapter Six: Fix the Immigration ProblemsAmerica is an exceptional nation. We are also a prosperousnation because o our liberties and our ree market system.Thats why people rom all over the world want to cometo America to create better lives or themselves and their

amilies, because we are truly the land o opportunity.

Americans have embraced their role as the worlds premiermelting pot, welcoming immigrants rom every corner othe planet. We readily learn about other cultures, customs andbelies. We appreciate those who are willing to come to thiscountry and make America a more vibrant and enriched place.

Americans do resent, however, the willingness o some to

circumvent our laws and enter our nation illegally. Whilemany, i not most, illegal immigrants are peaceul peoplesimply seeking to provide or their amilies, some are not.In act, some are quite dangerous, jeopardizing the saetyand well-being o American citizens.

Illegal immigration has only exacerbated illegal activity, suchas the horrendous crimes o drug smuggling and humantrafcking. Illegal immigrants who are repeat oenders areharder to track, making it difcult or law enorcement to

prevent crime. Further, weak borders have causeda compounding problem o terrorists assimilating with illegalimmigrants, crossing the border with them and entering the U.S.

Illegal immigration also puts a tremendous strain onAmericas entitlement and health care systems. Illegalimmigrants are typically uninsured and cannot aord topay or their medical care, driving up costs or all Americans, even those actually insured. In act, several hospitals in the

U.S. have declared bankruptcy as a result o the costs ocaring or illegal immigrants.

We must secure our borders, enorce our laws and promotethe existing path to citizenship. Protecting our nationssovereignty should be a paramount concern o those electedto lead us, not an aterthought or a reaction once theproblem becomes even worse. Further, taking a stand onthe issue does not mean one lacks compassion, but instead,

that one respects the rule o law and the importance o notbecoming a lawless nation.

Chapter Seven:Repeal & Replace Health Care DeformPresident Obama and the liberals in Congress havedismantled the ree market health care system and replaced

it with health care deorm. They have passed measuresthat compromise the sacred patient-doctor relationship, eliminate patient choice, stick a bureaucrat in the examiningroom, ration care and do nothing to limit rivolous lawsuitsthat drive up the cost o health care. In all these provisions, they made health care more expensive and less accessibleor American amilies they claimed to protect.

Under the guise o making health care a right or allpeople, President Obama and the liberals in Congress insteadextended the tentacles o government, expanding theircontrol and diminishing patients rights. They have alsomade it more difcult and more expensive or doctors topractice medicine, including specialized practitioners whoare desperately needed to save lives. In reality, their attemptsat reorming the system have actually deormed it.

The majority o Americans agree: its time to repeal andreplace Obamacare with patient-centered, ree market

reorms. Its time to institute legitimate and sweeping tortreorm that lets doctors practice medicine without ear orivolous lawsuits. Looser pay laws would be a great start! And loosening the restrictions on Health Savings Accountswould help to empower Americans to save and invest theirown money to expand their options or care.

Lets level the playing feld under the current tax codeand allow the deductibility o health insurance premiums

regardless o whether they are purchased by the employeror the employee. That would help shit ownership o oneshealth care back to where it belongs, the individual.

Patient-centered ree market health care reorms havealready been developed and introduced in Congress, but theyare stuck in committee and they cant get out. With the rightleadership we can get them out and get them passed.

Te majority of Americans agree: its time torepeal and replace Obamacare with patient-centered, free market reforms.

Chapter Eight:Redo Financial Regulatory DeformIn the summer o 2010, Congress passed the Dodd-Frank bill, better known by its misnomer, fnancial reorm. This bill,

which exceeds 2,300 pages, will cost $30 billion and takemany years to implement. Unortunately, it does little toshield Main Street rom the alleged risks o Wall Street.

This move or comprehensive reorm, or really, deorm, stemsrom the concerns o the American people ollowing theirbailouts o Wall Street with TARP (Toxic Assets Relie Program)to prevent the orecasted collapse o our economy. Thesweeping legislation posed new restrictions and created newregulations or many sectors o the fnancial industry- romcredit card companies to massive banks to accounting frms.

Like many things in politics, however, the devil is in thedetails. While Democrats sold the measure as a meanso the government playing watchdog on behal o theAmerican people, the Dodd-Frank bill actually compoundedthe problems acing our nations economy. This fnancialoverhaul created a protected group o too big to ailfrms that allows the ederal government the power to bail

them out whenever deemed necessary. Additionally, thebill would allow the ederal government to seize privateproperty without judicial review i the owner keeping his orher rightul property results in serious adverse eects onfnancial stability. The bill also adds $20 billion in taxes orthe next ten years.

Whats worse: the ormer chie o the FDIC, Bill Isaac, saysthat this bill does nothing to prevent a uture fnancial

crisis, the very concern that Democrats say the legislationwas meant to address. It also did not include provisionsto investigate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the twogovernment entities whose ailures cost the Americantaxpayers more than $6 trillion. Its also worth mentioningthat the bill includes special protection or Big Labor andperks or President Obamas supporters.

We must repeal fnancial regulatory deorm. We must enactreal reorms that protect the roots o our economic system. We must not compromise them with excessive regulationand the ederal governments pay-to-play politics.

    14 15

Chapter Nine:Eliminate Excessive Regulatory BurdensThe ederal government has amassed incredible amountso control through its ability to regulate everything rom

emissions to ood to businesses. Certainly, some regulationis necessary to protect American consumers and taxpayers, but excessive regulation has driven up the price o the goodsand services we want, need and desire.

According to the Heritage Foundation, burdensomeregulations have increased at an alarming rate. In 2010alone, Washington orced 43 major new regulations on us.The cost o complying with these additional measures ismore than $26.5 billion, which according to Heritage, is armore than any other year or which records are available.Experts anticipate that with health care deorm, fnancialregulatory deorm and other liberal agenda items, nextyears regulatory costs will skyrocket arther.

We pay or regulations with every bite o ood we eat, withevery drop o gasoline we put in our cars and with everygood or service we obtain. While we might not immediatelyrecognize the impact o such drastic regulations, they are

laced tightly in the cost o everything we buy. In act, theSmall Business Administration estimates that complyingwith regulation costs around $1.75 trillion annually, which isactually twice as much as all revenue rom individual incometaxes last year.

Alleviating the burdens o cumbersome regulation would bean immediate boost or our weakened economy. It wouldsignal to businesses and investors that the government

intends to maintain conditions that allow or them to thrive, not to bog them down with additional costs they mustinevitably pass on to their consumers. No one is arguingor lead-based paint in toys or kids or unsae ood. We justwant reasonable regulations that cut down on bureaucracyand help businesses succeed. And ultimately, the reemarket, aided in part by the watchul eyes o investors andconsumers, will regulate itsel.

Chapter Ten: Unbundle EducationEducation is the key to unlocking a prosperous uture. At the heart o education should always be the students.Unortunately, education has become weighed down withadministration that has shited the ocus rom educating

students to maintaining an excessive level o bureaucracythrough expanded unionization and regulation. Its time tounbundle education rom the ederal government down tothe local level.

O course, most teachers are in the feld o education tooster intellectual development or eager minds. Througha system o accountability, we should reward those teacherswhose students excel and better evaluate those whose

students perorm poorly. Perormance incentives work inbusiness, and they will work in education, too.

A critical component o improving education in our countryis to decentralize the ederal governments control over it.Children are best served when the teachers, parents andprincipals are making the day-to-day decisions, coupledwith the leadership o local municipalities, school boardsand states. What might work or a third grader in Oklahomamight not work or a third grader in Hawaii.

Another way we can put kids frst is to oer school choiceas a real option or educational competition. This meansexpanding school vouchers and charter schools. Suchmeasures have proven time and time again to best serve thestudents, many o whom do not have the economic meanso attending better schools. In a post-Katrina New Orleans, these programs were immensely popular with both theparents and the students, giving opportunities to children

who might otherwise have been stuck in poor-perorming,i not ailing, schools.

Unbundling education means putting kids frst. It meansrewarding those teachers who enrich the lives o theirstudents, and it means holding those accountable who donot. It means putting students beore union interests, and itmeans keeping their development paramount. Unbundlingeducation means localizing education- making those on

the ground responsible or the teaching and learning thathappens in our local communities. Unbundling educationmeans oering parents choices or their children to createa truly competitive educational system.

Te federal government has amassed incredibleamounts of control through its ability to regulateeverything from emissions to food to businesses.

Chapter Eleven: Put United Back in USAThe mainstream media would have you think that Americansare more divided than ever. They think that we are polarizedpolitically, with each side becoming more and more extremewith each passing year. I tend to disagree.

American are united on what we want or our amilies, ourselves, and our grand childrens uture: to live in a sae, reeand prosperous nation. That is what President Ronald Reagansaw. He saw America made o people-- good people-- wholoved and cared or each other. He believed that our best dayswere yet to come, and that the American Dream was attainableto anyone who loved it enough to reach or it.

While our nation aces complex problems, it is also madeup o a people who are industrious, intelligent and decent.Take or instance the response to the terrorist attacks oSeptember 11, 2001. Americans o every race, religion andbackground rallied together to support this great nation. This unity sent a strong message to our enemies: we willstand together and we will never orget.

No matter our political philosophies, there is so muchupon which we can agree. Using our common ground as a

starting point, we can make real progress in improving thiscountry or generations to come, while still cherishing theoundation that has made it great.

Conclusion: In God Is Our TrustOur Founding Fathers recognized a higher power in theormation o this nation when they said in the Declaration oIndependence that all men are created equal and that they areendowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights.

It was no accident that in some o our earlier years as a reeand independent nation that our leaders added In God WeTrust to all o our currency.

And to send a message to the rest o the world whenCommunism was on the rise in the 1950s, Congress addedthe words under God to our pledge o allegiance. Theywere not just words. It was a collective reafrmation that

we know the ultimate source o our greatness as a nation.Americas moral oundation does not need to be rewritten. It needs to be respected and taught to our children andgrandchildren. It is the basis or our concept o reedom. Asormer President Ronald Reagan reminded us many years ago:

Freedom is never more than one generation away romextinction. We didnt pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. It must be ought or and protected and handed

on or them to do the same. Or one day we will spend oursunset years telling our children and grandchildren what itused to be like in the United States when men were ree.

We are free because In God Is Our Trust.

Americas moral foundationdoes not need to be rewritten. It needs to be respected andtaught to our children andgrandchildren.
