CAHS Update
Corrections
The CAHS Update for Tuesday, May 2nd incorrectly listed
research expenditures for the college at $1.18 million. It
should have stated the figure at $1.1 million for the 2015-
2016 fiscal year. Data for 2017 is not yet available.
The CAHS Update for Tuesday, May 2nd incorrectly listed
the date of PTHE’s graduation ceremony. It was hosted
Saturday, May 6th.

Career Services in CAHS
For additional information in regards to Career Services in

College Address Updated
The correct physical and GPS address is now visible at the bot-
tom of each page on the college’s website. This information can
be used to direct visitors and clinic patients to the Health Sci-
ences Building. The address is 2150 West 5th Street in Green-
ville, NC 27834.
Dickerson Speaks in North Carolina and Abroad
Dr. Anne Dickerson of OCCT shared her research in multiple venues dur-
ing the month of April.
Dickerson started in Antalya, Turkey with a presentation on Assessment
in Driving Rehabilitation Friday, April 14th at the International Vocational
Rehabilitation Symposium. She also served on the Scientific Committee
for the event. The symposium is part of a project funded by the Europe-
an Union and Republic of Turkey to support the first vocational rehabili-
tation center in Turkey.
She concluded the month as a guest on It’s a Matter of Your Health
Wednesday, April 26th. Dr. Veita Bland, a Greensboro physician, hosts
the Sirius XM radio show advertised as a health magazine according to
its website. The show is produced by North Carolina A&T.
Research Collaboration Nets Award for HSIM Faculty and Student
Dr. Leigh Cellucci of HSIM and Eric Woodruff, senior
HSIM student, received the 2017 Best Paper Award from
the Midwest Business Administration Association (MBAA)
International during the annual meeting on Thursday,
March 23rd in Chicago, Illinois.
Co-researchers include Drs. Michael H. Kennedy, for-
merly of ECU and current Associate Professor at Univer-
sity of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, and Cara
Peters, Professor of Marketing at Winthrop University.
The four researchers presented their information for the
conference on Wednesday, March 22nd in the Society
for Case Research category.

Student Center Open
The Health Sciences Student Center
opened for students, faculty, and staff
to enjoy on Monday, May 1st.
Along with study and recreational facili-
ties, the new Student Center provides
three ECU Dining Services.
Both Grille Works and Greens to Go
(formerly The Wedge), will serve food
this summer, the former from 7:30 AM-
7:00 PM and the latter from 10:30 AM-
4:30 PM.
Starbucks will officially open as the third
option within the next few weeks.
HSIM Faculty and Students attend State Meeting in Concord
Graduates, current students, and faculty of HSIM traveled
to Concord for the annual meeting of the North Carolina
Health Information Management Association (NCHIMA)
from Tuesday, April 25th to Friday, April 28th.
NCHIMA is comprised of 3,000 members from across
North Carolina in a variety of professions all related to
health information according to the organization’s website.
Faculty member Dr. Susie Harris received the 2017 Distin-
guished Member Award at the meeting on Thursday, April
27th.
Harris is the 26th recipient since the award was first given
in 1986. She feels “honored to receive the award” as she
knew of her nomination but wasn’t expecting to return
with the distinction.

Jean Merenda of the Dean’s Office and Jarret Shafer
shared how CAHS uses lecture capture technology on
Tuesday, May 2nd during the annual Mediasite confer-
ence in Madison, Wisconsin.
Their session was titled Newbies Using Mediasite Desk-
top Recorder – Faculty, Staff, and Student Success and
Foibles. This is Merenda’s fourth presentation at a Medi-
asite conference.
Merenda facilitated a group discussion Tuesday after-
noon. Terry Wirkus of University of Wisconsin joined her
as participants worked through their experiences related
to My Mediasite.
When asked about her experience at the conference,
Merenda said that it “gives you the ability to network
with other users and exchange tips, knowledge and in-
formation about lecture capture but educational design
as well.”
Shafer received the Mediasite in Action Award for his
video about the continuation of classes during Hurricane
Matthew. Merenda helped to brainstorm and design the
video’s flow through storyboards. The winning video is
available here.
A second video by Shafer was a finalist in the High Pro-
file Event Award category. It highlighted key events
made available to viewers by different colleges within
the university, including 2016 Fall Commencement. The
