Summer 2016
Come to study at
the University of
Cagliari
Summer 2016

UNIVERSITÀ DEGLI STUDI DI CAGLIARI
ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CAGLIARI
STUDY ITALIAN AT A MEDITERRANEAN UNIVERSITY!
WHY CAGLIARI
Cagliari is the the capital of Sardinia which is
located in the centre of the Gulf of Angels. If you
walk through the old historic districts of the city
you can easily recognise the marks of different
cultures and conquerors who have lived in
Cagliari over the centuries.
Several archeological sites and unspoiled natural
environments allow you to choose between many
fascinating and interesting touristic attractions,
including art and nature. Thanks to its mild
climate, Cagliari offers in every season the
chance to discover its architecture, its archeological sites, its monuments, its previous history, and
the opportunity to observe the influences of the different people who have inhabited it. Cagliari is a
medium-sized city, and as our university has 6 faculties and around 30,000 students, we believe
these features make the University of Cagliari student-friendly.
Our tuition fees are one of the lowest in Italy: that is why studying in our university is accessible to
everyone, with subjects ranging from Archeology to Marine Biology, from Pharmacology to
Economics, Political Studies and Law, from Architecture and Engineering to Modern Foreign
Languages and Literature, and many more.
THE WEATHER Winter in Cagliari is short and warm, and thanks to the fact
that the city lies at sea level, the climate is generally mild.
The sky is almost always clear and blue, and spring seems to
extend beyond its natural time. The average temperature in
summer is 29°C whilst in winter is about 14-15°C. The local
climate is humid and is characterized by strong cold winds
which become from the North-West. The climate and
consequently the winds are favourable to do water sports.
Cagliari is ‘the City of the Sun’, but above all, ‘the City of the
Sea’. The summer season extends from May to October, and it is not uncommon to find brave
swimmers in the months of March and November. From the hills of the city you can admire the
unique view of a multicoloured sea that joins the city.
2
During this period, people have the possibility to practice different kinds of sport, from football to
tennis, from swimming to basket. Our Sport University Club (CUS) has all the spaces and the
necessary equipment to allow you to do your favourite sport. For people who appreciate nautical
sports, there’s nothing better than our beach, best known as “Poetto”. The beach has a length of
8km, so it’s ideal for several activities such as surf, windsurf and kitesurf. Finally, if you like to do
climbing, there’s a magnificent site called “Cala Fighera” where climbing’s shivers and the beauty of
the landscape mix each other.
If you have the time, don’t’ miss the possibility to be enchanted by the landscape. You can also take
advantage of 360° view of the city from the top of “Sella del Diavolo”, which is a particular rock
formation overhanging the sea; or from the top of “Colle San Michele”, one of the hills of Cagliari,
which has recently turned into a park. Cagliari has a lot to offer to visitors who want to enjoy sun,
sea and nature. In spring and summer you can enjoy the beaches and seas which are among the
most beautiful in the world, and you can also discover an unspoiled natural environment. Cagliari is
a city that you can discover day by day and that’s the reason why there’s always the possibility to
totally appreciate one of the most beautiful places of the Mediterranean sea!

These programs are designed to involve every aspect of the language: grammar, phonetics and

Our courses are planned by the University Language Centre and its teachers who are carefully

Our summer courses are organised into two sessions:
1. The first session will be focused on the explanation of grammatical and lexical structures with exercises to follow.
2. The second session will be dedicated to writing and oral conversation to encourage
students to correctly and actively apply the grammatical rules needed for conversation in
everyday life.
By speaking, listening and writing only in Italian, students will become more self-confident and will
improve their skills with Italian language. We will take great care in the preparation of the tasks,
and encourage interaction in the classroom.
Students will be encouraged to speak with each other during the lessons, in a calm and friendly
environment. Furthermore, media such as audio-visual materials, recordings, films, newspapers,
magazines will be used to aid teaching. Students will complete material in the books, pamphlets and
exercises created specifically for each course, which take into account the needs of the students.
Note that lessons will be mainly in Italian and that students will be encouraged to use the Italian language as much as possible!
