Term 1 Week 6 5 th March 2020 Caddies Creek PubliC sChool Dear Parents, Our school Photo Day is next Monday, 9 th March. The last couple of years have been in winter uniform in Term Two but this year we thought we would mix it up a bit and have it with summer uniform in Term One. Despite all the selfies and phone apps of recent years, school photos are still very popular and are a valuable memento of school. So remember to put on your best uniform and bring your best smiles on Monday. I, for one, will be making sure my hair is absolutely perfect that day. Congratulations to a large number of students who have been selected in Zone teams (the list is later in the Chronicle). I was mentioning just last week how difficult it is to get in a school team because of our size, so to be selected in a Zone team you must be pretty darn good. Some have even been selected in more than one Zone team! Well done to all those students. Speaking of doing well on the sporting field, two weekends ago Josh D competed at the NSW Junior State Cup Championship for OzTag (9 to 11 years) at Bankstown. Josh represented Hills Bulls Under 9 Years Boys who won the competition bringing home the gold in Division 1. They completed the tournament undefeated. Fantastic work Josh! As you are reading this Chronicle the Zone Swimming Carnival is finishing up. We have a number of excellent swimmers who have no doubt given their all. I look forward to hearing of their exploits. By now Year Six parents should have received their Expression of Interest forms for high school placement. It seems extremely premature to be thinking about 2021 at this point in time I know, but it is a very long process so they want to start it early. The child’s name, school serial number and local school (based on the child’s address) have already been put on the form. Thank you to Mrs Kelly for your hard work in doing this for all Year Six students! Parents can then either sign off on their local high school or apply for an out of area placement somewhere else – that’s why it takes so long. A reminder that, in light of the Department’s updated Enrolment Policy, if a school is over their enrolment “cap” they cannot accept any out-of-area enrolments unless under exceptional circumstances. Similarly, if you have a child attending a particular school and have moved out of that school’s catchment area, you probably will not be able to enrol their younger sibling. We understand that more and more students in primary schools are given mobile phones by their parents. On occasions it is useful if the child has to travel some distance to and from home, or to contact a parent who is running late to pick them up, but obviously at school they are not necessary as if there are any issues the office staff will contact parents. We ask students to hand in their phones to the office at the beginning of the day and collect them at the end so we know they are safe and secure. This year we have had small lockers installed in the front office, initially offered to those senior students who usually bring their phones down. They cost $5 a year to hire, with that $5 refunded on return of the key at the end of the year. A little bit of extra responsibility never goes astray! If you are interested in your child having a locker please speak with Mrs Kelly. It would be a naïve principal indeed who thinks that every child with a mobile phone takes them in to the office though, but if a phone is broken, lost or misused during the day without our knowledge it may be a very expensive lesson for the student and parent. Dear Parents,

Our school Photo Day is next Monday, 9th March. The last couple of years have been in winter uniform in Term Two but this year we thought we would mix it up a bit and have it with summer uniform in Term One. Despite all the selfies and phone apps of recent years, school photos are still very popular and are a valuable memento of school. The P&C will be holding a Disco in the school hall on Friday 20th March 2020. There is no specific theme for the first disco so kids come dressed in whatever they are most comfortable in ready to dance up a storm.

School discos staged by the P&C are supervised by P&C Volunteers and teaching staff. We kindly ask that parents drop the children off at the hall at their allocated time and pick them up from the hall promptly at the conclusion of their child’s disco session. Please note that children are not permitted to leave the hall without a guardian. Parents are not permitted in the hall during the disco.

Times: K-2: 5:00 – 6:15pm & 3-6: 6:30 – 8:00pm

It’s going to be an awesome night! You will be able to purchase tickets from Monday 16th March through to Friday 20th March 2020 under the COLA from 8:30am-9am. Tickets will be $6 each. Cash is accepted. An EFTPOS option will also be available enabling parents/carers to purchase tickets with credit/debit cards. (Please note as standard with these facilities a merchant fee will be incurred).

We all know how fast this term is flying right by us, Now is the time to start talking Easter. The P&C are running an Easter Raffle which will be drawn at the K-2 Easter Hat Parade on Monday 6th April 2020.

We are calling for Easter Raffle donations to make up our fabulous hampers & baskets. We are kindly asking that each family donate one small bag of little eggs or Easter chocolate or Easter craft / toys / items to the raffle. All donations can be left in the Easter Box inside the office foyer.

Each family will also receive some raffle tickets next week. Please return the ticket stubs and money to the school office by Friday 3rd April, 2020. Please make sure that whoever you sell the tickets to writes their name and number clearly on the stub that is returned to the school.

Reading Cinemas Movie Vouchers – Don’t forget to keep all of your movie stubs from Reading Cinemas at Rouse Hill Town Centre over the holidays and bring them in next term to put in the popcorn box in the office. These can be converted by the P&C to free movie tickets that we will use as prizes in fundraising events over the year.

At the end of this month we will hold our first P&C meeting for 2020. Our meetings are held on the last Tuesday of the month during the school term. The first meeting will be held Tuesday 31st March at 7.00pm in the Teachers staffroom. Everyone is welcome to attend and we would love to see you there.

Far too much waste ends up in landfill or makes its way into our environment which is having a devastating impact on our marine and land creatures. 4D wish to make a difference to our local and greater environment by registering Caddies Creek Public School to hold a Clean Up Australia Schools day event. The Clean Up Australia movement was started thirty years ago, by an "average Australian bloke" who had a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard and has now become the nation's largest community-based environmental event. Using this platform, 4D will organise and lead the initiative to clean up our school. They will record how much litter is collected and share the results, then put in place initiatives to inspire our community to be more waste aware. 4D would appreciate your support by sending your child to school with a pair of garden gloves on Tuesday 10 March, 2020. Each grade will be allocated an area in the school to clean up. We look forward to keeping you informed of our results and future initiatives. Thank you, 4D and Mrs Dobaj

Updated information about COVID-19 (formerly referred to Novel Coronavirus) for schools to consider using when communicating with parents & caregivers

Dear parent or caregiver,

The NSW Department of Education is working closely with the NSW Ministry of Health in response to the unfolding international COVID-19 (formerly referred to as Novel Coronavirus) situation.

Further travel restriction

Effective 1 March 2020 the Federal Government has issued a travel ban on foreigners coming to Australia from Iran. Only Australian citizens and permanent residents coming from Iran will be allowed entry to Australia, and from 1 March they are required to self-isolate for a period of 14 days after departing Iran consistent with the restrictions for those entering from China. Additionally, Australians have been advised NOT to travel to Iran.

Updated advice from the NSW Government for parents and affected staff regarding COVID -19 is:

• Any student or staff member who has been in, or transited through, mainland China (not just Hubei province) or has been in Iran is excluded from work, school or child care services for 14 days from the date they left mainland China or Iran (as the COVID-19 incubation period can be as long as two weeks).

• Any confirmed case of COVID-19 will be excluded until they are medically cleared to return. • Close contacts of a confirmed case of COVID-19 will be excluded for 14 days since last contact with the

confirmed case. • Students and staff who have returned to Australia from mainland China or Iran more than 14 days ago and

have shown no symptoms are able to return to school.

The NSW Ministry of Health has processes to identify any close contacts of cases confirmed in Australia. Advice about not attending school would be provided to these close contacts by the NSW Ministry of Health.

Consistent with current guidelines, students who are unwell with respiratory illness should remain at home until symptoms resolve. In accordance with the NSW Department of Education’s current practice, if any student becomes unwell, the school will implement infection control guidelines and follow the advice provided by the NSW Ministry of Health as appropriate.

Maintaining good hygiene standards is an important way to reduce the risk of acquiring and spreading respiratory infections. Parents and caregivers are asked to promote good hygiene, including handwashing with soap as handwashing is the single most effective way to reduce the spread of germs that cause respiratory disease.

The NSW Ministry of Health has advice and resources about COVID-19 in English and Chinese.

The NSW Department of Education will continue monitoring the COVID-19 situation and provide parents and caregivers with updated information about the virus.
