    2011 Jewish Community Heroes Campaign Rules

    The Jewish Federations of North America is proud to welcome the third annual Jewish Community Heroescampaign. This is our opportunity to celebrate the individuals who dedicate their lives to helping others.

    In keeping with the Heroes tradition, its up to the public to nominate and vote for the community heroes

    they feel embody the spirit of the award.

    This year, the public will establish twenty semifinalists. Ten of the semifinalists will be professionals whoearn a living from their socially conscious work. The other ten semifinalists will be volunteers who dontearn an income from the services they offer to their community.

    Who can be nominated as a Jewish Community Hero?We encourage you to nominate Heroes from all walks of lifethe neighbor running nonprofit bake sales, avolunteer who serves the elderly at a local retirement home, a teacher building a school for theunderserved, the community organizer bringing people together.

    Nominees must be residents of the United States or Canada and be 13 years of age or older. Employeesof The Jewish Federations of North America cannot be nominated, nor can elected government officials orcandidates for government elections. Past nominees may be nominated again, however semifinalists from2010s campaign cannot be nominated, and grant recipients from any previous Heroes year are alsoexcluded.

    Employees of any Federation or National Federation/Agency Alliance member organization, as well as

    volunteers for any of these agencies are eligible for nomination as Jewish Community Heroes. If you havequestions about whether or not someone is eligible, please contact us here.

    How do I receive updates?Sign up to receive updates on the Jewish Community Heroes campaign. Youll also get notices from yourlocal Jewish Federation based on the zip code that you indicate. Please click 'unsubscribe' on any emailyou receive to be removed from our list; and 'unsubscribe' directly from the Jewish Federation to beremoved from their list.

    Who can nominate a Hero?Anyone can nominate a Hero and vote for candidates.

    Can nominees from last year be nominated for 2011's Jewish

    Community Hero campaign?Yes, nominees from 2010's campaign can be nominated and are eligible for receive the top honor in2011's campaign. However, last years 20 semifinalists are not eligible. Grant recipients from any

    previous Heroes year are also excluded.

    How is the Hero of the Year decided?There are four steps to the process:

    1. The public nominates and votes for their favorite heroes. The deadline for new nominations is 11:59PM Eastern Time on September 27, 2011.

    2. Public voting for the nominees will end on 11:59 PM Eastern Time on November 10, 2011.

    3. The top ten vote-getters in the Professionals category and the ton ten in the Volunteers category willdetermine the 20 semifinalists. All votes will be audited to ensure no ineligible votes have beensubmitted intentionally or unwittingly by participants. The list of semifinalists is not official until theend of this audit, which may affect the composition and order of the semifinalist list.

    4. Apanel of judges selects the five finalists, including the Jewish Community Hero of the Year, all ofwhom receive a Heroes grant. The winners will be announced in December. Please note that ALLHeroes nominees will receive a certificate of recognition at the end of the campaign.

    When does voting open? How do I vote?Voting to establish the 20 semifinalists is open from the moment the vote button is added to the Heroessite on September 7 through 11:59 PM Eastern Time on November 10. Votes are limited to one per userper Hero every 24 hours. (You may vote for more than one Hero each day, but you may only vote for thesame Hero once per day.) You must provide a valid email address to vote.

    All results will be audited after the close of online voting to ensure compliance with voting regulations.Vote tallies and leaderboard positions may change during or after the voting the process. Using dummyemail addresses, proxies and bot/spam submissions are strictly prohibited.

    What criteria will the judges use to pick the Hero of the Year andadditional honorees from the semifinalists?

    The essential criteria will be:

    The nominee shows exceptional qualities and commitment in line with the mission of The JewishFederations of North America, strengthening the Jewish community, and the ideals of tikkun olam.

    The nominee complies with the rules of the Jewish Community Heroes campaign.

    What will honorees receive?The Hero of the Year will be provided with a grant to be used as an investment in their community projector non-profit effort v ia his or her local Jewish Federation, or another recognized 501(c)3 charitable entity orCanadian equivalent.

    The remaining four finalists will receive a smaller amount to be used as an investment in their communityproject or non-profit effort via their local Jewish Federations, or recognized 501(c)3 charitable entities orCanadian equivalent.

    The Federation Hero of the Year will also receive a grant. The Federation Hero of the Year is the leadingvote-getter who was nominated for their role in a project directly operated by or primarily funded by aJewish Federation or one of its national partner agencies or a local chapter thereof. The Federation orpartner agency must be cited in the nomination in order for a nominee to be eligible for the FederationHero recognition.

    All nomination entries are subject to an approval process that can take up to 72 hours depending on whenyou submitted your nomination.

    I've been nominated but some of the information is incorrect.How can I correct this problem?We understand you want you want your entry to be as accurate as possible. As such, we are willing to 1.make minor factual corrections, 2. fix misspelled names, and 3. add a photo to your profile when no

    photo has been submitted (add language about later submission of videos for a nominee?). Pleaseunderstand that due to the high volume of entries any request that fall outside of the above threecategories will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The Nominator and Nominee are the only peoplepermitted to request changes to a nominee profile.

    Can I submit a nomination via mail or fax?No. We will only post nominees submitted via this website. Please do not mail or fax entries to the JFNAor any JFNA partners.

    I cannot vote for a nominee or receive an error message when Ivote.You may cast one vote per Hero every 24 hours. If you are unable to cast your vote it may be due toshared IP addresses across networks. Please try voting from another location or use our voting form.

    JFNA and the other participants in this program reserve the right to modify the rules and award-allocationprocess and award amounts during the course of the event as they see fit. The JFNA also reserves theright to not post entries it deems inappropriate or outside the spirit of the campaign.
