    Minister lays foundation of annex domestic terminal

    Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil

    Aviation Mr. Post BahadurBogati laid the

    foundation stone of the Annex Domestic

    Terminal Building at TIA (TribhuvanInternational Airport), Kathmandu at an

    auspicious morning hour of January 18,

    2013 amidst a colorful gathering of the

    different stakeholders of the terminal

    buildin . The Annex will be located in

    Director General of Civil AviationAuthority of Nepal Mr. Tri RatnaManandhar highlighted the importanceof the annex terminal to ease thecrowd in the existing terminal buildingespecially in sterile area during flightdelays and to cope with the highgrowth in domestic air traffic. He saidthat investment in infrastructure willnever be wasted. So, the Authority is

    investing in black topping ten domesticairports this year from its own internalresources and a modern car park infront of the international terminalbuilding at Kathmandu has beeninitiated, he said.

    the guests to the function and narrated

    the fast growth of domestic traffic at TIA,

    thus making the terminal facility

    renovated in 1995 insufficient. Domestic

    passenger movement has increased

    from 1 million in 2001 to 1.5 million in

    2010 and is approaching 2 million by the

    year 2013. Similarly, domestic flight

    movement at TIA has increased from

    63,159 in 2001 to 99,290 in 2010. Cargo

    handling is constrained by space in the

    present terminal, he said.
