Plex does NOT support the following development platform:
Citrix Winframe - a multi-user Windows application server based on Windows NT, that supports
application deployment using a thin client architecture.

1 Tested on 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. Plex Windows C++ applications are 32-bit applications that execute
under WOW64 environment on 64-bit Windows. For full 64-bit execution use the C# or Java generators.
Plex 3.1 is the last release to support 16-bit applications. Plex does NOT support the following
client application deployment platforms:
• Windows CE - Microsoft's hand held organizer operating system which supports a subset of the
Windows APIs
• Win32S - A DLL which allows some 32-bit applications to run under 16-bit Windows.
A 32 bit application generated with Plex cannot be executed on a 16-bit platform.
Windows C++ Server Deployment Platforms
Server applications generated by the Plex Windows C++ generator can be deployed to:

Tested on 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. Plex Windows C++ applications are 32-bit applications that execute
under WOW64 environment on 64-bit Windows. For full 64-bit execution use the C# or Java generators.
Microsoft Visual C++ Versions:
Older versions of Visual Studio may be obtained from Microsoft via an MSDN subscription or by
purchasing the current version and requesting a downgrade. Please verify terms and conditions
with Microsoft. Older versions may also be available from third-party resellers.
Visual Studio Express edition is NOT compatible with Plex C++ builds, because it does not
include the MFC libraries.
Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 is available as a separate download from Microsoft and must
be installed after Visual Studio 2005. In addition, on Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2
and Windows 7, the "Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista" should be
installed.
All internal testing of CA Plex WinC and WinNTC applications are carried out using the English
language install of Visual Studio 2005.

Both the service pack 2 and the VCQFE0005 are located on the Plex 4.0 install CD. The professional and enterprise
editions of Visual C++ 6.0 are supported. The standard edition does not support "code optimization", so we
recommend at least the professional edition.

Microsoft .NET C# Client and Server Generators
Visual Studio is NOT required for C# development; however, Visual Studio 2010, 2012 or 2013 may be useful for debugging and other development activities in which case the Express edition is the minimum requirement for this purpose.
If you are generating and deploying WPF clients or WCF services, then the .NET Framework is
the minimum requirement.

1 Netsoft's NS/Midrange Bundle does not support shared folders for Windows 95. 2 There is a known performance problem transferring source to the AS/400 using Netsoft Portfolio 2.21, Windows
NT 4.0 and 802.2 protocol. Netsoft has acknowledged the problem and is working towards a solution. Until a fix is
available, using Netsoft Portfolio 2.21, Windows NT 4.0 and 802.2 protocol to transfer source to the AS/400 is not
recommended. 3 Available starting in Plex (formerly Obsydian) 3.0.
NOTE: 16-bit applications can be built with Plex through release 3.1
