    CA Mainframe Software Manager

    CA Mainframe Software Manager (CA MSM) is a key component of CAs Mainframe 2.0

    strategy to help you derive maximum value rom your mainrame platorm and to change the

    way yo manage the mainframe forever. CA MSM provides a set of services that enables both

    mainframe experts and novices to easily and qickly acqire, install and maintain CAs

    mainframe software. It proactively informs yo when pdates are available and alleviates JCL

    and SMP/E complexities.

    Whats New, Whats Compelling?The initial release of CA MSM provides:

    n The Product Acquisition Service, which enables you to easily move product installation packages and

    maintenance rom CA Support Online directly to your mainrame environment and prepare them or

    installation.

    n The Software Installation Service, which standardizes CA prodct installation. It takes advantage of the new,

    streamlined Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) method that allows yo to install prodcts sing standard

    tilities withot reqiring yo to reconstitte a tape cartridge. This service also provides standardized

    SMP/E prodct installation and maintenance via APARs and PTFs, and simplifies SMP/E processing throgh an

    intitive graphical ser interface and an intelligent Installation Wizard.

    FeatresIn addition to the Prodct Acqisition Service and the Software Installation Service, CA MSMs initial release alsoincludes these eatures:

    n Browser-based Interface: A amiliar web operating environment or sotware management activities that is

    z/OS based and enables staff with minimm mainframe expertise to install and maintain CA software. (See

    Figre A.)

    n Synchronized Release Stack: The synchronized, certified release stack incldes 45 leading CA prodcts for

    z/OS that are tested or CA product interoperability as well as compatibility and exploitation o the current

    release of z/OS, ths promoting qality and redcing defects. Each year additional prodcts will be added to

    the stack, with the objective of eventally inclding all CA prodcts for z/OS.

    n Integrated Health Checks: More than 100 health checks across 24 mainframe prodcts are already available to

    help optimize prodct se. These health checks, which execte nder the IBM Health Checker for z/OS, provide

    new prodct capabilities to inspect the environment and, based on policy, recommend the proper configration.

    They also periodically recommend implementation changes based on collected prodct metrics and exection

    experience. More Health Checks across additional CA prodcts are being added.

    n Best Practices Guides: These gides provide information on prodct installation, initial configration and

    deployment to shorten the learning crve for the staff responsible for prodct installation and management.

    n Interoperability Certification: The prodcts in the release stack have been tested together as part of a

    dedicated effort to find and resolve interoperability problems prior to release.

    n Open Architecture: CA MSM has an open architecture that can support installation and maintenance o

    non-CA software.
