What is ENDOMETRIAL CANCER? Endometrial cancer is a type of cancer that
begins in the layer of cells that form the lining (endometrium) of the uterus.
Causes
Risk Factors
Changes in the balance of female hormones in the body More years of menstruation.
Starting menstruation at an early age — before age 12 — or beginning menopause later
Never having been pregnant Older age
The majority of endometrial cancer occurs in older women who have undergone menopause
Obesityoccur because excess body fat alters your body's balance of hormones
Hormone therapyWomen with breast cancer who take the hormone therapy drug tamoxifen have an increased risk of developing endometrial cancer.

Endometrial BiopsyThe removal of tissue from the endometrium (inner lining of the uterus) by inserting a thin, flexible tube through the cervix and into the uterus
Dilatation and curretageA procedure to remove samples of tissue from the inner lining of the uterus. The cervix is dilated and a currete is inserted into the uterus to remove tissue. The tissue samples are checked under a microscope for signs of disease.
