Incremental Release

The Incremental Release Program is a customer-interactive delivery model where we develop new product features and release them using the Agile development methodology. The CA Technologies development teams work closely with customers to create product features for rapid implementation. We work with customers to release new features incrementally, as we complete them, rather than waiting for a list of features to complete. After all of the features for an incremental release are completed, the release transitions to the standard support policy.

To participate in the Incremental Release program, review the Incremental Release Program – Support Policy and Terms. To discuss the customer requirements for participation, contact the product manager for your product. Participating in the Agile development process is not mandatory.

■ zIIP support is now provided.

■ DBD and PSB search in Control Block Validity Manager is now enhanced.

zIIP Support

System z Integrated Information Processor (zIIP) support is now provided. CA Database Analyzer can now use zIIP processors when analyzing databases or performing pointer checks. This functionality is available when CA Database Analyzer runs standalone or when performing statistical database analysis running under CA Database Copier.

This functionality is enabled through the new ZIIP control statement.

Note: For more information about this control statement, see the CA Database Analyzer Reference Guide.

Enhanced Search in Control Block Validity Manager

The display of Control Block Validity Manager SEARCH function results was enhanced. When the OR operator is used in the DBD or PSB search, search results indicate which of the specified search criteria were matched.

CA Database Copier Enhancements

The following enhancements have been made to CA Database Copier with this release:

■ zIIP support is now provided.

■ Stacking of output data sets for the COPYIC function is now provided.

zIIP Support

System z Integrated Information Processor (zIIP) support is now provided. CA Database Copier can now use zIIP processors when making image copies.

This functionality is enabled through the new ZIIP control statement.

Note: For more information about this control statement, see the CA Database Copier Reference Guide.

CA Database Copier Enhancements

10 Release Notes

Stacking of Output Image Copies Support when Making Copy of an Image Copy

The CA Database Copier COPYIC function now supports stacking of output image copies onto a single tape volume. Stacking files onto a tape volume can significantly reduce the number of tape volumes required for image copy processes.

Note: This support was added after the Version 16.0 GA announcement of the CA Database Management Solutions for IMS for z/OS. For more information about the COPYIC function and stacking of image copy output data sets, see the CA Database Copier Reference Guide.

DFSMSdss Support

Snapshot General Services now provides DFSMSdss (DFDSS) copy support. You can now specify whether to use the native Snapshot method or DFDSS to copy your data sets. You can also use the failover option, which switches from the native method to DFDSS. The ability to specify the copy method gives you greater control over the creation of your Snapshot copies. The failover capability increases the reliability of Snapshot General Services, enabling you to take full advantage of its high performance copy methods.

For EMC devices, failover support is provided when the following conditions are present:

■ The EMCSCF subsystem is not active.

■ The source volume is not eligible.

■ The target volume is a Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) that is operating in asynchronous mode.

For IBM 2105 (Shark) devices, failover support is provided when the following conditions are present:

■ The target volume is an IBM 2105 that is operating as a primary Peer to Peer Remote Copy (PPRC).

■ The target volume is an IBM 2105 that is operating as a primary Extended Remote Copy (XRC).

■ The target volume is an IBM 2105 that is already in a FlashCopy relationship.

Failover support is also provided when the target volume is a FlashCopy I Extended Addressability Volume (EAV) device.

This functionality is enabled through the USEDFDSS parameter in the OPTIONS statement.

Note: For more information about the OPTIONS statement, see the Installation Guide.

CA Database Organizer Enhancements

Chapter 1: Enhancements 11

CA Database Organizer Enhancements

The following enhancement has been made to CA Database Organizer with this release:

The default value for the IMSRCCOMPATIBLE control statement of the Prefix Resolution and Update component of CA Database Organizer has been changed to NO. In previous releases, the default value was YES when PRU was invoked as program DFSURG10. This change was made because most customers who were converting to PRU found the return code of 4 confusing when there were logical parents without logical children. A return code of zero will be returned in this situation when IMSRCCOMPATIBLE is NO.

To keep the previous release return code values, add IMSRCCOMPATIBLE=YES to the PRU control statements for the jobs where you invoke PRU as program DFSURG10 (IMS compatibility mode). Or, you can add the control statement to the PFXRES or PRUPARMS members in the IDIPARM global parameters library. This approach also affects PRU return codes when it is invoked as ITKPRU.

CA High Performance Recovery Enhancements

The following enhancements have been made to CA High Performance Recovery with this release:

CA High Performance Recovery now has the ability to recover HALDB databases that have been reorganized using the IMS Online Reorganization (OLR) Facility. This functionality includes recovering to current or to a point-in-time. It also includes functionality added to CA Secondary Index Builder (SIB) to rebuild the secondary indexes, primary indexes, and ILDS’s in a cursor-active status situation when SIB is invoked under recovery.

CA Mainframe Extended Terminal Manager Enhancements

CA Mainframe Extended Terminal Manager now lets you specify the maximum number of sessions per user ID. This functionality is enabled through the new global option MAXIMUM SESSIONS PER USER ID (MAXSESSION).

Note: This support was added after the Version 16.0 GA announcement of the CA Database Management Solutions for IMS for z/OS. For more information about how to enable multiple signons with the same user ID, see the CA Mainframe Extended Terminal Manager User Guide.

CA Chorus for IMS Database Management

12 Release Notes

CA Chorus for IMS Database Management

Version 04.0.00 of CA Chorus and Version 18.0.00 of CA Database Management Solutions for IMS for z/OS introduces the CA Chorus for IMS Database Management discipline that helps database administrators (DBAs) streamline repetitive DBA tasks.

Close integration of products from the CA Database Management Solutions for IMS for z/OS family with the CA Chorus interface lets DBAs easily access and evaluate information about database status, occupied space, and level of disorganization, and monitor thresholds and alerts to identify, potential issues. Documentation of actions taken and other experiences can be easily accessed and shared to help accelerate knowledge and simplify mentoring to the next generation of DBAs.

This discipline offers the following major innovations using the enhanced workspace:

Monitoring Database Status, Space Use, and Disorganization

This discipline displays information about database status, space use, and disorganization at the database data set level of granularity. This information enables DBAs to quickly improve database health and efficiency and increase application and system performance. Customized alerts and policies ensure that DBAs can quickly identify and resolve potential issues.

Monitoring Database Recovery Readiness

This discipline provides health check status of recovery environment and image copies generally.

Graphical Data Representation

This discipline allows running analytical functions like count, sum, or average for collected data and display results graphically in charts to facilitate data evaluation.

This discipline uses following data sources:

RECON Data Sets

A new RECON scan utility is provided in CA High Performance Recovery. This utility collects information about databases that are registered in RECONs and about physical data sets. By running this utility regularly, you ensure that the CA Chorus for IMS Database Management discipline displays the most current data.

CA Utility Execution

The CA Database Analyzer and CA Database Copier functions provide data about their latest execution to the CA Chorus for IMS Database Management discipline. This data contains the function identification, such as name and timestamp, and the data provided by the function for the database object.

Note: For more information, see the CA Chorus for IMS Database Management documentation at the CA Support Online portal.
