with a new version of the

CFM International CFM56-5C

engine.The A340-500/-600 are

powered by the Rolls-Royce

Trent 500 series.

The tremendous operating effi-ciency of the A330/A340 Familyis enhanced by voluminousunderfloor holds for generatingcargo revenue, with room for60% - 100% more freight thanthe largest competing aircrafton the market. The unrivaledoperating economics of theA330/A340 Family mean that anairline can even operate prof-itable cargo flights without asingle passenger on board.

The A340-500 and -600, thelongest and largest Airbus air-craft in operation to date, main-tain the Airbus leadership intechnology and innovationthrough the use of advancedmaterials, systems and avionics. The platforms bring a new levelof comfort, reliability, and versa-tility in long and ultra-long rangeaircraft. A new cabin interior fea-turing sleek and harmoniouslines and unrivaled spacious-ness, provide airlines with newways of optimizing the cabin.

Latest deliveries of the A340-600 platforms have introducednew features such as lower-deck facilities, which includegalleys with a trolley lift to themain deck, creating more seat-ing capacity on the main deck.In addition, airlines have chosento install mini suites in FirstClass cabins and AFIS (Airbus InFlight Information System).

The A340-500 now flies theworld's longest air routes, suchas Dubai to New-York, andSingapore to Los Angeles. Withthe ability to fly economicalroutes of up to 9000nm./16,600 km., the A340-500

opened a new era of travel. It isthe longest-range aircraft everbuilt.

The A330/A340 Family has inte-grated state-of-the-art technolo-gy in its overall operation, including: fly-by wire flight con-trol, side-stick controller, anddigital avionics to support thesefunctions.

The A330/340 hydraulic systemis comprised of three fully inde-pendent systems — Blue,Green and Yellow — to furnishthe hydraulic power required tooperate flight controls, landinggear, spoilers, flaps and slats, cargo doors, nosewheel steer-ing, thrust reversers and theemergency electrical generator. Each hydraulic system operatesat a nominal pressure of 3000psi (207 bar).

Four Eaton Vickers® brand modelPV3-300-EA2 series variable dis-placement inline piston pumpsare installed on eachA330/A340. These engine drivenpumps are equipped with aninlet boost impeller and electri-cal depressurization valve (EDV).The three air-cooled, continu-ously rated motorpumps(Vickers® brand MPEV3-032-15)are AC electric motor driveninline design, variable displace-ment pumps.

The Vickers® brand engine driv-en pump (PV3-300-EA2) (EDP)provides primary hydraulicpower for each of the threeindependent systems, Blue,Green and Yellow. The Greensystem is powered by twoEDPs, and the Blue and Yellowsystems are each powered byone EDP.

The hydraulic motor-driven gen-erator (model CMV3-022-EA3Cand CMV3-049-EA1A) providesemergency electrical power incase of primary electrical powerfailure. The model CMV3-022-EA3C is rated at 5.5 kVA for

A340 aircraft while the CMV3-049-EA1A is rated at 8 kVA forthe A330 aircraft. A generatorcontrol unit (MGC-050-EA2Eand MGC-EA1C) (GCU) controlsthe emergency generator byproviding speed regulation, volt-age regulation, and protectivefunctions.

The Stab Trim hydraulic motor(Vickers® brand model MF3-075-EA1J and MF3-075-EA2A) actu-ates the horizontal stabilizer onthe aircraft. Eaton’s ActuationSystems provides the groundservice hydraulic manifold, prior-ity valve, solenoid valve, andfuse manifold associated withright or left pitch trimmers. Inaddition, the A330 is equippedwith a reverse actuator.

All three systems provide powerfor primary flight controls(ailerons, elevators and rudder). The Blue system provideshydraulic power to the slats, speed brakes, parking brakes, spoilers, pitch trim and thrustreversers. The Yellow systemalso provides power to flaps, speed brakes, spoilers, pitchtrim, cargo doors, and thrustreversers. The Green systemprovides hydraulic power forthrust reversers, leading edgeflaps and slats, the emergencyelectrical generator, landinggear, and nosewheel steering.Emergency power provided inthe Green system is aided by aram air turbine.

The Airbus A330/A340 Family ofaircraft engines are alsoequipped with Tedeco® brandchip detectors, located in thesecondary power system oilflow. The collectors capture fer-rous wear particles from gearsand bearing that could indicateimpending failure. Tedeco®

brand chip collectors areequipped with self-closingvalves permitting withdrawal ofthe magnetic probe for visualinspection of the collecteddebris, with minimal lost of oil.

71035-5Priority Valve

The Priority Valve is designed tocontrol the amount of flow exit-ing each of its outlet portsbased on its inlet port pressure. As the inlet pressure decreasesbelow a predetermined setting,a poppet in the valve closes offone of the outlet ports and, therefore, gives precedence tothe other outlet port.

This prioritization ensures thatsystems deemed critical willreceive flow in situations wherethere is low system pressure. The priority valve will give priori-ty to the flight controls over allother systems such as it willgive priority to the leading edgeflaps over landing gear actuation

B7236T

Filler Plug

Eaton’s Tedeco brand Filler Plug pro-vides secure access for replenishingoil in the A330/340 air turbine startersand other power units.

S126FSight Plug

Eaton’s Tedeco brand Sight Plug is avisual indicator of the oil level in theengine lube tank.

70902-3Ground Manifold

The Ground Manifold is used formaintenance on the ground. It iso-lates manually, either hydraulic sup-ply to the right wing, left wing or tailprimary flight controls for servo-con-trols internal flow leakage measure-ment. The manifold contains a pres-sure compensated, spring returnshutoff valve. The valve either directsground service supply pressure to asection of the flight control hydraulicsystem or permits the aircraft'shydraulic supply to pass through.

The valve is designed to operate inthe environmental conditions speci-fied in AIRBUS Specification SPE A2900 A 006 C.

71145-1

Solenoid Valve

The Solenoid Valve for theA330/A340 is a two- position, three-way DC solenoid operated valve for3000 psi (207 bar) service. Withsolenoid de-energize, the pressureport is connected to the system sup-ply port. When the solenoid is ener-gized, the consumer supply portconnects to the return port.

71461-1Fuse Manifold

The Fuse Manifold contains twohydraulic fuses that are designed fora 3000 psi (207 bar) system. Themanifold is used in the hydraulic sys-tem for the nose wheel door actua-tion. In case of a malfunction, if theflow exceeds the design limit, thefuse will shut off the flow preventingfluid loss.

71179-1Hydraulic Pitch Trimmer ManifoldAssembly

The Manifold Assembly consists ofone manifold, one fuse unit, onerelief valve and one check valve foruse in the landing gear hydraulic sys-tem. The Manifold is designed tooperate with Skydrol fluid at 266 barpressure.

The fuse unit prevents the completeloss of a system in failure scenarios. If the unit's predefined maximumflow rate is exceeded, the fuse clos-es and inhibits flow to downstreamconsumers. The fuse permits flowup to the design set point. In theflow exceeds the design limit thefuse will shut off preventing fluidloss.

71396 Power Door System Actuator

The hydraulic actuator isdesigned for use in a 3000 psi(207 bar) hydraulic system and4000 lbs of axial load.
