AMAZING “LOVE SYDNEY” EFFORT!

QUEENSLAND FLOOD BUILDING TRIP UPDATE

Thanks to your generosity we were able to let our light shine across our 3 campuses. Together with funds raised through Vision Builders, Beyond and Ps Phil’s spectacular painting we donated a total of $101,000 to three deserving groups within our communities. This really is an outstanding effort!

We assisted the Ambulance Service of NSW with their Peer Support Program which helps Paramedics who are suffering from work related traumatic stress and depression.

We have enabled Mona Vale Hospital to purchase 3 new high tech beds for the adult and children’s wards and a laryngoscope package that will greatly improve the

service they can provide for what is a sensitive medical procedure used for both adults and children.

And Alicia Martin (what a champion) received funding towards her Food Within Program which helps struggling families buy fresh food and teaches them how to cook and eat healthily. Our donation will benefit 24 families.

A second team of builders travelled to Ipswich last month to complete work previously commenced on the house of two local Senior Ministers. They also completely renovated another house for a young family who are connected to the Catalyst Church in Ipswich. They have expressed their deep gratitude for our love and support.

WHAT TEENSREALLY WANT

50,240 young people aged between 11-24 participated in the Mission Australia 2010 survey of Young Australians.

The survey is a fascinating read and is helpful to get a big picture understanding of the state of young people in our country. You can download it at www.missionaustralia.com.au

Under the NSW section entitled ‘What do young people value?’ the top five things that were valued by young people in NSW were as follows:

1) Family relationships 2) Friends (other than family) 3) Physical and Mental Health 4) School or study satisfaction 5) Independence

So what does this information mean for parents? Your role as parent and an influencer in your child’s life is more important than ever.

Create a culture of grace in your family If your young person feels accepted as they are right now they will be more open to hearing what you think for their world. If they sense that they are going to be in trouble all the time they will end up wanting to hang out late at night at petrol stations more than hanging out at the family home. This can be a really difficult balance because teens need boundaries and there has to be consequences for decisions that cross those boundaries. However, it should be from the basis of unconditional love and grace, where they feel and know that no matter what they do you will still love them all the same. This I am sure is ridiculously difficult, but that’s why I believe all parents need to rely on the Holy Spirit to give wisdom on what your child needs in order to help create this culture of grace in your home.

Boundaries & Freedom Bouncing off the first point, it is so vital that you clearly communicate with your young

person what kind of boundaries you are going to have in your household. My mum and dad were great at having good chats with us at different ages and different timings in our life, as we started to become aware of different temptations or pathways that were presenting themselves to us. It is really important to understand that these potentially damaging pathways are super normal and are just part of any teenagers development.

The worst thing is to not talk about it at all and the second worst thing is to talk about these things in a religious or legalistic way, motivated by fear. Boundaries, as we all know, are there to help us, not to hurt us and in those boundaries there must be room for the young person to make mistakes, learn and grow. The boundaries are not just about what they can’t do, but also more about what the young person can do. It is a mix of healthy freedom and healthy protection.

There needs to be consequences and disciplinary actions taken, but I believe these will never be effective unless they are understood before the mistake is made. As much as there are consequences for mistakes, even more so there needs to be rewards for responsibility. This connects to the freedom part of boundaries. If the parent/child relationship is only based on negative boundaries it will breed a culture of mistrust and lack of communication, but if the goal is healthy freedom and independence, I believe there will be greater connection and communication.

I praise God for how many amazing teenagers and parents we have in C3 Church who are a shining example to this city! There is no shortage of incredible families and even if you feel you are struggling, remember that is perfectly normal, your teenager will thank you later for not giving up.

Just decide that you will be debt free, live within your means, save and give! Money management made simple! Most of us know what to do; we just have trouble doing it.

Evict Poverty!Poverty Stinks! Poverty does not glorify God. Poverty needs to be evicted off the planet and out of our mind sets! Psalm 35-27 God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servants.

Wisdom must become revelation, which then motivates us for internal change. We want to do it instead of feeling like we should do it. If you are focused and determined, and have a plan, you will smash your debt right out of the ballpark and out of your life!

Debt is just downright annoying. Debt is a burden and it sits on your shoulders and reminds you it is there constantly. It whispers in your ear when you are trying to go to sleep! Do you have a plan of action? Evict it I say! Decide what you can throw at it every month until it is completely homeless!

Income StreamsBelieve God for more than just one income stream. Pray a prayer that asks God to reveal to you an income stream that is UNLIMITED! Regular income is a blessing, knowing where your bread and butter is coming from, but... having an unlimited income stream operating, gives God an opportunity to bless you and others even more! God has given us everything we need to create wealth. He has given us our talents and abilities so that we can use them to find fulfilment, and earn a living! Truth is... you can earn money doing what you love to do! What is it that you are passionate about? Just do it! Do it with excellence and money will follow! It is already within you... Imagine what believers could do if we were all operating in our sweet spot? When you are true to yourself everyone gets blessed! Also you could be sitting on a gold mine! Be your full potent self! God cannot give us what we cannot see ourselves having!

Think eternally You cannot take money or possessions with you when you die but you can send on your investments ahead of time! What are you investing in? Treasure in heaven will never stop paying dividends! If believers are in so much debt that they cannot give generously, how can we partake or join the great commission, to go into the world, and preach the gospel?

Money has a direct impact on preaching the gospel. “Going” costs money! We can be shareholders if we can’t go ourselves. Every day is an opportunity to buy up more shares in God’s Kingdom. Invest in things that have eternal pay offs! You can be a debt busting, money saving, eternally investing machine! Go for it, just do it!
